This is one of the best social science findings ever made published: In Quebec between 1997 and 2007 (the first ten years of $5 a day universal child care), the low-income rate for single-parent families headed by women fell from 60.3% to 20.4%.

Universal low-fee childcare and preschool programs are THREE of the biggest interventions possible in women's labour market participation and productivity, all at once in one policy. It allows women to find more and much richer work, it creates lots of jobs for women, and helps girls in school later
