George Monbiot @georgemonbiot.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Then the government must find a find of selling this policy, which might be very harmful. It will argue that it’s essential for “growth”, “jobs”, “international standing” etc. Opponents will then argue these claims, engaging in the great democratic tradition of “debate”. But debate is irrelevant. 432448
George Monbiot @georgemonbiot.bsky.social · 28/09/2026That’s because the decision has already been made. The issue being debated is merely the post-hoc justification. Where decisions happen and where debate happens are different places. The idea that debate leads to policy outcomes is a fiction designed to create an impression of democratic consent. 439457

KnightHawk🦅 @knighthawk899.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I know where the decisions are actually made.. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...theguardian.comSecretive Bilderberg group just met – but who knows what global elite said? This year’s conference had plenty of newsworthy aspects, but it’s a mystery why the press fails to talk about it 001
Alex Ross @wergend.bsky.social · 28/09/2026interesting note, that's also how decisions are made in people's minds most often. Decision comes long before we are aware we have made it. That only comes to consciousness after the creative parts of the brain have become active in creating justifications for it 😉 030
George Monbiot @georgemonbiot.bsky.social · 28/09/2026We can spend our lives debating the justifications (I more or less have); but we are wasting our time. What we need is a massive clampdown on the influence of money over politics, including lobbying transparency, campaign finance reform, an end to the revolving door between politics and lobbying. 11583124
