Excellent article as ever. Particularly well put regarding the fptp plebiscite nature of the current system which, along with sophisticated systems of misinformation and an education system not fit for purpose, make its description as ‘democracy’ at best dubious.

Indeed as you write "1 second every five years" is the influence the massive majority of us get. Continual lobbying and access to ministers is the influence the rich minority get. If not direct access by the rich it's through their proxies that fill the "Research Groups" and policy organisations.

Great article, thanks @georgemonbiot.bsky.social. Repression of protest will backfire. We all need to work hard to create an inclusive, participatory democracy which is not susceptible to corruption by vested interests in the way the Labour party has been. #Citizens #Assemblies
