George Monbiot @georgemonbiot.bsky.social · 23/06/2025In any conflict, we should oppose the aggressor and defend the aggressed, regardless of identity. I have only contempt for the Iranian regime, but Iran was attacked by Israel and the US without sufficient cause or legal justification. Israel and the US are the aggressors, Iran the aggressed. 431428323
Gaisfordsurf @gaisfordurf.bsky.social · 23/06/2025Except you conveniently forget that Iran has financed, armed and provided logistics to Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. Where does that stand in your aggressor v aggressed argument? 110
i-had-a-dream.bsky.social @i-had-a-dream.bsky.social · 23/06/2025There are many things you can criticise about Iran but they do not present a nuclear threat to US and this unprovoked attack by Trump contributes nothing to MAGA. If he hadn't withdrawn from talks in his first term there may have been a peaceful resolution by now. Orange warmonger. 030
sycamore1933.bsky.social @sycamore1933.bsky.social · 23/06/2025Trouble is, it undermines the moral authority of western countries, and the rule based order. Difficult interviews today by the Foreign Secretary, performing verbal gymnastics. That way lies madness. 090
Mickey Blue @poornhonest.bsky.social · 24/06/2025Agree George, it was all a lame excuse to gain control of Iran's rich supply of oil & increase Israeli dominance in the Middle East. Trump's reward, Trump Tower (street? suburb?) on the waterfront in Gaza, more genocide all at the expense of USA & allies. When have we had louder voices, yet no say? 000
Kity Katz @kitykatz.bsky.social · 23/06/2025Yes, it's similar to why people accused of horrific crimes should still receive a fair trial and proper legal representation - it represents a commitment to upholding the integrity of the legal frameworks that protect us all. 0131

Pi @pharnolds.bsky.social · 23/06/2025This "war"/war seems older than the last days. By which I don't want to say every next move, or any bombing is allowed. I'm not sure morality is sufficient or even necessary in international relations. But the right to defend yourself is totally moral. Pre-emptive strikes are not, imo. ... 000
Ian @ianpadg.bsky.social · 23/06/2025Trump "normalised" aggression when he sided with Putin over Ukraine. In his head he created permission for his own aggression. 020
lukens @lukens.io · 23/06/2025It’s astonishing how we’ve heard time and time again “Israel has a right to defend itself” after they launched their retaliatory attacks on Gaza. Now all we seem to hear is “Iran needs to show restraint”. It’s so staggeringly hypocritical. 1151

Aptly Asked 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🍁 @aptlyasked.bsky.social · 23/06/2025Afghanistan is murky - it was supposed to neutralize al-Qaeda (the aggressor). A large invasion and regime change went too far making the US and NATO the aggressor. Bush wanted a big, flashy, clean war when a small, quiet, dirty one would have sufficed. 010
samborin.bsky.social @samborin.bsky.social · 23/06/2025You can oppose aggression without "defending the aggressed" (who may sometimes be absolutely vile). 110

Tim in Bath @timinbath.bsky.social · 23/06/2025It is not about defending Iran so much as defending the principles of international law at stake here which are supposed to stop countries bombing who they feel like willy nilly. 060
George Monbiot @georgemonbiot.bsky.social · 23/06/2025Being consistent on this point means putting aside all loyalties and enmities, which I recognise is not always easy. It meant opposing the wars against Afghanistan and Iraq and Israel's attacks on the Palestinians, but also Assad's war against the Syrian people and Russia's invasion of Ukraine. 629024
Mr Thursday @mr-thursday.bsky.social · 23/06/2025Where was all this concern for “regime change” when the anti-government protests by Iranians started two years ago? This attack is a distraction by two embattled leaders (tRump and Netanyahu), spending lives for political gain. 0181
OldSchoolJourno 🦘🏏🎶 @psclazzac.bsky.social · 23/06/2025The mullahs are vile, but "two (or 3) wrongs don't make a right" isn't a tough concept if you're over five years old. 000
Steve McDowell @cowsmellcj.bsky.social · 23/06/2025You are morally correct on a personal level, but peace only exists where a majority of powerful nations follow a morally consistent line and take unified action through the United Nations to restrain rogue states. Ian Spencer 🐧 @ian.spennys.world · 23/06/2025Trump might be jealous of the British Empire methodology - sign treaties, establish some breach has occurred, attack, occupy and subsume the other party.
