I know what you are saying but perhaps not the best example. Some historians argued that Chamberlain won us precious time to re-arm and be stronger to take on Hitler. The current situation is different.

Appeasement emboldens aggressors. Anything less than defeat for Russia will be merely a pause in Russia’s neo-imperialist war against western rules-based democracy. Unfortunately, Trump is also a neo-imperialist, so it’s pretty much up to Europe now.

Land for peace failed utterly in the 1930s. It will fail in Ukraine as Putin or his successor will come back for more. If Trump gives Putin what he wants the Russians will go for the Baltic States next, probably in five to ten yrs after they've recovered from the present war.

Land for peace has worked in Korea and worked for West Germany. That was because large numbers of very heavily armed Western forces are/were stationed in both countries on a hair-trigger ready to respond to any aggression. Ukraine will need the same.
