Mentioning this again, because I just interviewed yet another older creator who mentioned how hard it is to create when fans stop responding, and how life-affirming it is when it suddenly comes back.

It's true for any medium, but especially in comics, the motivation isn't financial. When they stop hearing from fans, it's hard to keep going.
