I make sure to use the term Anglican as well as Episcopalian for several reasons including historical and ecclesiological accuracy. Those groups are Anglican in the fullest sense of the word, not being part of the Anglican Communion. I think that affiliation is important in part because it helps serve as a ballast against becoming an eccentric American liberal protestant boutique Church that doesn't pay attention to history or

the global realities of Christianity (or just global realities). Americans can be incredibly parochial, & we need all the healthy means possible to combat that. On a missional level, the Episcipal Church has done an abysmal job of connecting with members of the Anglican diaspora in the United States
