Day 14 of posting cool mushrooms every day: I know Halloween is over but I can't resist... Devil's Fingers, also known as the Octopus Stinkhorn (Clathrus archeri), stinks of rotting flesh and attracts insects. It's native to Australia and NZ, however it is now found in the south of England too.

A mushroom that looks like a monster from a horror movie's fingers. They're long, red, and twisted, emerging from a fungi cup on the ground. It looks really freaky.

I'd expect it to be more widespread in UK considering how it managed to spread across various continents. In Czechia it was observed in 1962 for the first time and nowadays it's not uncommon here.

Of course the rotting odour mushie is native to Australia. Drop bears use them to push unwary tourists into prime ambush spots as the humans try to avoid the smell.
