For the record, I agree that the current situation in Ukraine and Eastern Europe is potentially catastrophic and that open warfare between NATO and Russia would be a Very Bad Thing™ that we should try our utmost to avoid. But giving Russia a free hand east of the Oder does not actually solve this!
