Andy Diggle @andydiggle.bsky.social · 16/07/2025James Gunn's #Superman is the first superhero movie that actually feels like a superhero comic. Like picking up a random issue that starts in the middle of the action and you don't really know WTF is going on at first and it's batshit insane in the BEST possible way. More of this, please! 11536
Joe Stacey @shipmind743.bsky.social · 16/07/2025When we came out of the cinema, I said that I thought Superman was the most comic book-y comic book movie for a long time. And it was all the better for it. 030
Sean Connell @slcpgh.bsky.social · 16/07/2025Also not rehashing the origin story was such a welcome relief. We all know it, we don’t need to go over it again. 140
Ste @csqur.bsky.social · 16/07/2025It runs like a multi-issue full arc as well. Multiple small stories that are part of the overall main plot that gets wrapped up in the final issue. Anyone saying that there was too many plot points to follow has never sat and read a trade print in one go. 130
Greg Ellner @gregoryellner.bsky.social · 16/07/2025As I’ve explained to my friends, it feels like reading a trade. A four to six issue story arc of an established universe. 010
Hugh Parker @hughp1970.bsky.social · 16/07/2025That's *exactly* what I said to someone complaining about the "3 centuries ago" intro. It's the same with the introduction of GL, Hawkgirl, and Mr Terrific - we don't need their backstories, we just accept that's who they are, and this is them turning up in the story. 020
PJ Holden @pauljholden.com · 16/07/2025Also: it feels like it ignores the influence of watchmen and dark knight returns on comics (and I love them but thank god for that) 390
Kara Jane Adams @ghostinexile.bsky.social · 16/07/2025I’ve long argued that you don’t need to start at the beginning, because practically nobody started at the beginning. And film has done this before with Indy, which tells you everything you need to know about the character in the opening of Raiders, without the burden of an origin. 130
Huntley Alan 🇨🇦 @vincentvegafff.bsky.social · 16/07/2025Yes! Its great they trust the audience enough to just get what GL, Mr Teriffic, Hawkgirl, and Metamorpho are all about without explaining every little thing about them. Not many big blockbusters have that much trust in the audiences intelligence. It a breath of fresh air. 120
Andy Diggle @andydiggle.bsky.social · 16/07/2025It's easy to sneer at bright, bold, simple ideals like truth, justice, kindness and decency. But those ideals are more powerful than any of us, and they define our aspirations for society. That is why we will continue to return to them in our stories, again and again, forever. 5433
