Todd Davenport @sunsopeningband.bsky.social · 28/12/2024Such is life with PEM/PENE. We clinicians don’t need to be helping our patients run up energy debt they can’t pay back by teaching them to ignore their bodies’ needs. We need to teach people with PEM/PENE to pay as they go before encouraging explorations of their bank balances and credit limits. 1293 29

It's funny you reach for a financial metaphor here because I also find that's one way I have a little more success explaining the flavor of disability that ME/CFS causes -- it's like our energy budget is below minimum wage, sometimes we don't even have enough money to cover the essentials. 2225 22
Todd Davenport @sunsopeningband.bsky.social · 28/12/2024I’ve found financial metaphors make that connection for clinicians and patients in a way that just explaining the physiology won’t do. Can’t figure out why. 😅media.tenor.coma man in a blue shirt and tie is pointing at a bulletin board with a spider on it .Alt: a man in a blue shirt and tie is pointing at a bulletin board with papers connected by strings while gesturing wildly 040 4
