1 of 6 #scotsfoundedfootball I saw a wee piece from Jimmy Hogan in the Sports Express 1954 (courtesy of the Glanville compendium). The ref JT Howcroft recommended him for the FC Dordrecht job, which led to the Dutch team. JT got him sorted with a job in Vienna in 1912. A prophet without honour?

What looks like a cigarette card image of the referee J T Howcroft. He is carrying a brown Football in his right hand, has a white wing collared shirt and has a white handkerchief in the blazer's left breast pocket on which is a yellow badge with a red indistinct symbol on it.There looks to be a chain going from his pocket to a button on the blazer. Probably for a fob watch. Behind him are the two towers of Wembley Stadium which places the picture

Netherlands Team 1912 With J T Scowcroft in White. In 1910 he recommended Jimmy Hogan for the FC Dordrecht job and thence the national job. The team are on the pitch with a crowd in the distance to the right. Scowcroft has a white shirt.

2 of 6 Howcroft was a Bolton boy. Hogan played for Bolton Wanderers 1908-13. Howcroft was a referee for the 1908 London Olympics where he surely would have met the Dutch team who were coached by Edgar Chadwick from Blackburn (Olympic 1886-7), (Rovers 1887-88). #scotchprofessor land. Coincidence?
