She lobbied for labor reforms after witnessing the horrendous Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. Worked for safety and labor reforms under Governor Al Smith. (And, as if that wasn't legacy enough, she was the woman that Baby Houseman was named after in Dirty Dancing).
