“Others are moving still further on to Pinckney and Portage Lake. Gerald Reason, a Pinckney realtor, also reports he’s getting a significant number of calls from Ann Arbor people. The reasons: ‘Taxes are mentioned, racial problems, student unrest, riots. They don’t like the hippies running the town. They just want to get out of that environment.’
Adds Reason: ‘Ann Arbor has changed considerably in the past 10 years. I can remember that when you said you were from Ann Arbor, you were looked up to. It’s not that way anymore.’
Reason believes the Pinckney school system is ‘pretty good’ but adds that ‘we’re also having drug problems.’
But Reason doesn’t feel that people are moving out of Ann Arbor just to save money. ‘Prices hereabouts,’ he says, ‘are getting up so close to the prices in Ann Arbor that it’s not worth coming out here to save money. There are other reasons.’
He points out that the money a man saves in taxes by moving is offset by the increased gas and commuter costs.”

"ANN ARBOR TOWN Has Changed A Lot...”
“In some ways, Muehlig’s Store has changed too. But basically it’s still that old-fashioned dry goods store on the same corner of Main and Washington Street, well known for good quality, friendly service and reliability.
We, at Muehlig’s are proud of this trademark and we intend to preserve it!”

“Mrs. Homer Ferguson breathlessly arrived on the threshold after an hour’s drive from Ann Arbor. Gowned in black lace over taffeta with velvet stole, she cheerfully reported that she had been lost twice on the way. ‘Ann Arbor has changed so much,’ she explained.”
