I lay out the case for why I think this is FINALLY the year we get a new mainline 3D Mario game from Nintendo (after EIGHT YEARS!) in my new opinion column. Check it out if you're interested! www.ign.com/articles/sup...

The Odyssey team was hiring for a 2D platformer a few years ago and that’s where the other devs probably are. Don’t expect 3D Mario Next until 2030 to 2033 @duckvalentine.bsky.social

I'm currently playing through Galaxy 2 on my Switch 2 (not played it since the Wii release) and what I wouldn't give for a new Galaxy. Or something of this style, 3D but not open areas. The Galaxy games are my favourite of all time.

Wasn’t it the Odyssey team that just made Donkey Kong Bananza thought? I’d imagine it’ll be a while before their next game, or are you suggesting another team could make it?

Literally the only thing that would make me buy a Switch 2. Nothing last year moved the needle, especially given the obscene price of the thing here in 🇨🇦

Sure would be great. Now, whether they even have it (I'd say even for 2028), I am more in doubt.

Counterpoint: I counterpicked the next mainline 3D Mario in Fantasy Critic, and Nintendo wouldn't do me like that

unless you've got a source you're not discussing, I def wouldn't count on this - the staff overlap between Odyssey and Bananza is nearly 100%. That team is years out from a new release.
