Re: “people don’t bike in the winter”, let’s think about places where people bike more: the Netherlands, Denmark, Berlin, Paris. Not great weather Places in Southern Europe with great weather and no winter (Italy, Greece) don’t have large biking numbers It’s not the weather. It’s infrastructure

The other thing is, Americans are supposed to be tough, right? The pioneer spirit, self-reliance, “pulling yourself up from the bootstraps.” But if it’s below 50 F, are we too soft to ride a bike?

Spent my teens and twenties riding a rim brake 26er every day throughout Milwaukee. It really sucked in January when we'd get ice storms, but the snow suit helped break the falls when they happened.

Carbrained Americans are the softest, laziest humans on earth. They can't imagine being outdoors for more than 5 minutes in anything but perfect weather, or walking further than 1/2 block (unless it's the Costco parking lot).

I'm a tough rugged man. Cowboys out on the range in a storm, nothing but grit and an old denim jacket. That's me. Go to the store 700m away from my house? Oh gosh I'd simply wilt if I can't take an entire mobile climate controlled living room with me.

I haven’t even given the Scandinavian countries as an example. But even in Norway, Sweden, and Finland, cities have much higher rates of cycling than most U.S. cities despite having significantly worse winters
