Why am I being advertised to in my textbook. Why is this a thing that is happening. Literally looking at the banking section on AI (which does not distinguish between GenAI and algorithmic AI) and it's essentially advertising this mortgage company with a link and everything in my book. WTF.

A section of my business law textbook talking about AI in banking. It has a section about mortgage companies using algorithmic AI to help people find a better mortgage, but it's specifically highlighting Better.com, and even has a link to Better.com's website like a freakin' ad.

To quote my good friend @authorjessowen.bsky.social. But you don't want to learn. You don't want to create. You want a product. An end result. There is no creation with GenAI. No art. Just "content."

AI didn't democratize art. Artists did. Free YouTube tutorials, sketch pages, works-in-progress, mentorship, AMAs, process videos. Sharing materials, stock reference, resources, and technique. These are freely available to anyone who wants to learn.

I made a Simply Lovely #MaxVerstappen #F1 sticker for my car. :D Using only simple cell shading and minimal lineart was a fun challenge, especially for the variety of expressions. Max is fun to draw. XD #RedBullRacing #HumanMade #NoAI

A stylized sticker that reads "Simply Lovely" in large bubbly font. Inside each letter is a hand drawn picture of dutch Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen. Sometimes he looks dramatic, sometimes he looks silly. Every letter's background is a dark orange, and there's a teal and orange shadow for every letter.

For anyone interested in the full anti-AI comic. Also, comic lettering is hard. o_0 Took me a while to get it right. My utmost respect to all comic artists!

A mini anti-AI comic. The word "AI" is on fire. Two furries, one blue and white and one red and black, are discussing the AI on fire. Matt is blue and white, Trecheon is red and black.

Matt: You didn't have to go that far.
Trecheon: I absolutely DID.
Matt: It's a FIRE HAZARD.
Trecheon: It's PAPER.
Matt: That's LITERALLY why it's a fire hazard.
Trecheon: You're just mad that I thought of it first.
Matt: ...
Matt: Touche.

Artists, show me the first ever picture of an OC and the most recent. My very first picture of Matt, drawn in 2002. My most recent picture of Matt, drawn earlier this year for an anti-AI mini comic, alongside his best friend (boyfriend? 👀) Trecheon, who is at least as old as he is.

My "unc" score, which is 25 points toward "unc" and 75 toward "youth." It says "Mostly fine, but a few cracks are showing. Stay vigilant."

It's honestly sad. It hurts my heart to think that there are people out there who don't take joy in the journey. But that's not an excuse. Fuck AI, and fuck the damage it's done to our world and our journey. I hope it all burns down. And I hope people seek out the journey of creation.

Digital art has been far slower for me, but you know what? *That's okay.* Because I love creating. I love looking at the progress. I love the *journey.* But AI slop prompters don't know how to take joy in the journey. To them, results are everything.

The first picture I've ever drawn of Matt vs. one of his most recent pictures. The original picture is a terrible Sonic style art with a pencil neck, a football head, and weird loops for hands. The new one is a well shaded art piece with cell shading and intense eyes.

The difference between my attempts at rendering art vs. cell shaded art. The rendered art feels very odd, but the cell shaded art plays to my strengths.

I kept all my "ugly" art because it represents joy to me. I had fun making this stuff. I loved seeing how much (and how quickly!) I improved while dedicating just a little time every day to specific, concentrated practice.

If you're really interested in created, you MAKE time. Even 10 minutes a day will help you improve. I did a whole five months of this with a dollar tree sketchbook and cheap pencils. I think I spent like, 30 minutes a day.

Brian Wecht. The first drawing was in January of 2019, and the second was from March of the same year after doing daily sketches. The first one has eyes too big, the hair is messed up, the chin is wrong, the neck is too large, and it looks nothing like the subject. The second one looks a LOT more like Brian and has far better proportions.

A picture of Brian Wecht that I used as a reference. He's got his head slightly tilted and he's not quite smiling at the camera.

R. A. Meenan (Sammie)(She/They) @zyearth.com · 02/06/2026

There really is no excuse not to just try and learn. Dollar Tree has pencils and paper. YouTube and libraries have endless free lessons. There are dozens of free art programs. The only thing these people need is TIME. Here's my improvement from January to May of 2019.

My first attempt at drawing Arin Hanson. Hair is messed up, the forehead is too big, nothing is lined up properly, and the chin is weird. This was January 2019.

My attempt at drawing Arin Hanson in May of 2019. It looks a hell of a lot better and actually looks like him! Better lined up eyes, shading is simple but good, better hair, etc.

The cover of the novel Mage from The Zyearth Chronicles. It features two furries from the waist up looking scared. The tall furry is black with a burnt orange snout and white on the tips of his short quills and ears. He's wearing glasses and a green pilot jumpsuit. The short furry is a gray and white cat with glasses wearing a black and white military uniform. In the background, a cityscape filled with tall skyscrapers is burning brightly with fire, and a mysterious cloaked figure emerges from the smoke and ash. The series title, The Zyearth Chronicles, is at the top, and the book title, Mage, is at the bottom. The whole book has a brown and red motif.
