Well, it was obviously a last minute decision for Iron Lung to play at the New Glasgow Cineplex, but I’m so happy I got to see it! It was fucking awesome honestly and if you want buckets of blood and descent to madness you’ll love it!! Mark should be so proud 🥲

My only beef with Lucky Day is that it’s the kind of book I need everyone in the world to read but I have no idea how to describe it? A gory bildungsroman? Perfect chaos? This is a weirdly queer book for weird queers and you might not even know you’re a weird queer until you read this! Just read it!

I finally read One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This, and so must you if you haven’t. Omar El Akkad masterfully weaves his life as a writer in Canada and the U.S. with the harrowing events in Gaza, calling for us to throw sand into the gears of Palestinian genocide and the empire.

Just finished Titan of the Stars and it ruled. Very glad @ekjohnston.bsky.social has ventured into horror and I sincerely hope there will be more to come! The setting was vividly depicted, I enjoyed the characters/monsters thoroughly, & the Canadian-ness of this book was the cherry on top. Loved it!

Owie didn't have the option to come to Canada as a government or privately sponsored refugee. They are selected by agencies such as the UN or community groups and often come from conflict zones or refugee camps. She applied for a Canadian visa, but couldn't get one. So she got a visa and a ticket to the U.S.
But when Owie and her children tried to cross into Canada at the Fort Erie, Ont., port of entry, they were turned back due to the Safe Third Country Agreement, which requires asylum seekers to make a refugee claim in the U.S., if that's where they first arrive.

I can’t believe this giant (~60-70 cm!!) Polemonium reptans started as just a pinhead-sized seed two autumns ago. They are from the Midwest US. I am cultivating a mix of NS and regional native plants to prepare as our climate changes. If the insects move, they’re gonna need food when they get here
