If you do anything this month, please do yourself and society a favor and make physical contact with someone. A hug. A handshake. A fist bump. A high five. Even a hand on the shoulder. You'd be surprised how much that might mean to someone who hasn't felt another person's touch.

It was at that time, I want to believe, that we both realized though the intentions were noble... no amount of talking over the phone would provide the level of support a person could bring, just by being there. I'm going to sound odd, but human contact is necessary for those struggling.

I didn't immediately turn to suicide. I called the suicide hotline just for some form of human conversation. I was quickly met with the sound of someone who did their damn best over the phone. They told me it would be okay, that there was a brighter tomorrow. I asked for a hug, the call went quiet.
