It won't take long Steve. It doesn't have to be peanuts. Buy a handful of walnuts in shell and when they hear the thunk as they hit the pavement, they'll be waiting for a moment to collect them. After a while, they'll be expecting it

They have amazingly strong beaks - in fact all corvids do. Crows, rooks, jackdaws and jays can all get into a peanut. It's a question people often ask but for a corvid, getting into a peanut is easy 🙂

Quite a few fall in the lake. Once in a blue moon, one will show off and swoop down and fish it out. Most of the time though, they can't be bothered

Feeding them so close to the water is risky but on the odd occasion, when nuts drop into the water, one the crows will fly down and fish it out. Very impressive

Yes, a tip from a chef friend of mine. They are cheaper by weight than pine nuts and you can't taste the difference against the basil and the parmesan/percorino

I think I told you that one of the crows fell in the water and drowned (well pushed in by another crow actually). A few weeks ago, another fell in and went under the jetty. I could feel the panic rising but they suddenly flew out. Big relief
