Millennia? You’re conflating Zionism and Judaism. Zionism as an ideology only dates back to the late late 1800s, and early Zionists were extremely open it was colonialist, supremacist and ethnic cleansing. Ben-Gurion openly said if he were Arab he’d never think of making a deal with Israel.

This is a statistically very unfair comparison for sharks.

I agree. I also think the rise is directly tied to the actions of Israel. So, I only see three options: 1. Israel radically changes course (won’t happen) 2. People stop being angry at what Israel does (won’t happen) 3. Decouple Zionism/Israel’s gov from Judaism to the greatest extent possible.

Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I agree, that’s terrible.

To put another way 1. This was bad. No question. 2. If it were at an event on Ukraine/Russia, we’d call it political without debate. Pro-Palestine, political. But because the event had Israeli flags, we have to argue endlessly. That is what I mean by conflation.

Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I agree, but it is not a religious event. I also think, yes, an event explicitly dedicated to the Israeli hostages and making demands of Hamas but also very pointedly ignoring tens of thousands of dead civilians or countless Palestinians held without charge *does* belie a political preference.

Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
So ultimately, yes, I do think saying “any event whose purpose is to support Israeli causes is inherently Jewish” is as silly as saying any pro-Palestine event is inherently Muslim.

Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I’m not saying it was good or anyone did anything evil or even if the event were called “Fuck Gaza” that should have occurred. I am saying the event was by the event’s own description, a non-religious event about current world events and, by the attackers own words, picked on political grounds.

Well, I’d say that’s a strong reason why we actually *should* separate Zionism and Judaism, and separating anti-Zionism and anti-Judaism. I don’t think Israel has much intention of stopping killing people, and people are angry. Conflating Islam and Al Qaeda was not great after 9/11 either.

I agree there is some leftist antisemitism and still feel this is a bad example. The guy was a middle aged Egyptian nationalist who also lived in Kuwait, not a local DSA member. He spent most his life in nations with issues with Israel.

I am too. But this was an event relating to a geopolitical conflict, not an expression of specifically Jewish belief. I wouldn’t say an attack on a pro-Palestine protest was specifically an Islamophobic attack either.

Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I’m not saying antisemitism doesn’t happen, of course it does, but conflating Zionism and Judaism makes that worse. When you muddy the line on that, which I would argue Netanyahu does very purposefully, you are telling the world “to be Jewish and to support this mass slaughter is one and the same.”

Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
No, the intentional conflating Zionism and Judaism is actually the problem. Wearing a kippah and an “I love Ben-Gvir” shirt aren’t remotely the same thing. If Zionism and Judaism are the same, I know some Jews who I guess need to be kicked out.
110
Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
That was in Boulder, not Denver. Also, while terrible, the suspect repeated stated he was against and actively in planning the attack searched for *Zionist* events, not *Jewish* events. That event was not specifically for Jewish ppl or faith based. That’s targeting based on political ideology.

Fair enough. This neighborhood was also one of the first where ICE started having a really notable day to day presence so a lot of the community disruption the past few years has really been pretty heavily tied to them.

Could I ask where? I’ve only lived in pretty lefty areas the past few years (Chicago and Denver) and there’s been a ln Orthodox Jewish center like, blocks from my house. Saw them out walking all the time and it was just fine the whole time I was there. Nothing happened.

Yeah, 20 years after 1981 is 2001. The killer computer is a HAL model, which is coincidentally one off each letter from IBM. Clarke and Kubrick both said it was unintentional.

If it’s so facile it may be silly for Hasan to say it, but I’d argue it’s more absurd to write articles about it and clutch your pearls. As you say, we can debate the net world effect of US policy endlessly, but the statement itself is true. It *is a part* of the US’s global footprint.
000
Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Okay, but you’re left with, yes, the US clearly and objectively caused more global harm than Al Qaeda often for shit reasons. Like, *just Henry Kissinger* probably caused more total suffering than Al Qaeda. The optics of saying so are one thing, but it’s very evidently true.

This assumes state actors cannot perpetuate deliberate murder of civilians. It at least assumes that the murder of civilians is for noble intention. It also ignores non-state actors having a goal beyond violence itself. “State violence is always better than non-state violence” is flatly absurd.

Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
I’ll also go further: framing state interest as a valid excuse for trivializing evil acts is, taken to its logical end, explicitly MAGA mindset. It says that the murders of Pretti and Good can be justified because the state has authority, the bombing of Iranian schoolgirls okay bc US interests.

Also: if I say “Ted Bundy killed more people than Jeffrey Dahmer,” that’s a statement of fact, not “handing it” to Jeffrey Dahmer.

Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Saying state terrorism is less bad because it represents more people is absurd. Russia has more people than Ukraine, so the invasion is actually less bad. Nazi Germany represented the will of about 100 million Germans, so really it was kinda doing what most of them wanted, so less bad.

Yeah, I mean obviously she had some involvement and movies and even the stage (there’s a musical coming out this year), but it really feels like the “special Dolly tribute away from all the other dead people” belongs to the Grammys, not the Emmys or Oscars or Tonys.

After trying and failing for decades to talk other Presidents into it,Netanyahu finally convinced Trump to go after Iran plus he pretty openly supported Trump in 24. I think he’ll miss him too.

I say that because she also Posted this yesterday, having apparently gotten some flack:

I believe this is in connection with another tweet of hers, where she was calling Jewish people criticizing Israel “Kapos.” I don’t know if that makes it better or worse.

Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
The K-word she wants to use is actually “Kapo.” She’s calling Jewish people criticizing Israel Kapos.

Clinton is also 80. Bizarrely, Trump, W and Clinton were all born the same summer. June, July and August respectively.

Mein Kampf also has pretty indisputable historical value. I’d argue the harder sell would actually be The Turner Diaries.

To be honest Last of the Mohicans isn’t even that hard. It’s like… mid-high school level. It ain’t exactly Nabokov or Proust.

I would say that has absolutely no relation on the percent of Christians who have actually read the Bible, and is completely irrelevant to the point.

Dunk Accino @zpowers.bsky.social · 11/08/2026
My lifelong Christian grandma finally read the whole Bible at age 95. She thought it was a slog and almost gave up, except by pure chance I (not a Christian) happened to be reading it at the same time.

That’s not unique to Gen X, it’s how all generations work. They typically span 15 years. It’s not super reasonable to have a new generation every 4 or 5 years.

That’s the obvious stuff he meant. He’s asking why some people act like they’re clairvoyant when I, an idiot without access to the entire US intelligence system, could have told you the same stuff.

I find it perplexing. Hillary knew Trump and Epstein personally for decades and ran the State department but she’s somehow Nostradamus for saying what any idiot on the street (example: me) could easily see
