Generation, 2022. I went to Kings Canyon to photograph the sequoias. Looking closely revealed something else: scars, fallen trees, new growth, and the evidence of fire carried through the landscape. Holding Light opens Friday, August 21 at University Friends Meeting in Seattle.

A massive fallen and charred sequoia trunk stretches across the forest floor beneath the scarred base of a standing giant sequoia. Dense green saplings and undergrowth surround the blackened wood.
