Twitter: You're at the whims of a billionaire. Threads: You're a data machine cog, but the billionaire doesn't care about you specifically. Mastodon: You're either at the whims of your server admin, or you can't find anything. Bluesky: Eventual whimmunity, can find stuff, but _everything_ is public.

But it’s not two-way! If A blocks B in ATP, this *didn’t prevent B from seeing A’s posts *. All it means, afaict, is “A is announcing they will not observe any of B’s content.” Even that may not be true! That’s one of the key reasons I’m concerned about user expectations.

So an ATP “block” Is completely different than a Twitter “block”. I am tempted to call the former something different like “admonition”, “reprimand”, “censure” because those sounds closer: public announcements about the blockee.

I'll bet efficiency on ARM is more important for wide adoption of a secure hash function than efficiency on recent Intel/AMD laptop/server machines, because everything is a lot slower on (most) ARMs, and the use cases sometimes come with hard performance requirements.

a meme in the style of "stop doing math". All Robot & Computers Must Shut The Hell Up. To all Machines: You do not speak unless spoken to. And I will NEVER speak to you. I do not want to hear "thank you" from a kiosk. I am a divine being : You are an object. You have no right to speak in my holy tongue

On bench.cr.yp.to/results-hash.html#aa…, BLAKE3 is one of the most efficient secure hash functions, but in reality BLAKE3 is much *more* efficient than shown there, because it uses ARM NEON (which is not shown in that benchmark) and because of the new BLAKE3 v1.4.1 speedups.

Extra double like/reskeet. I have a crazy idea, y’all: What if users control all their own apps, and those apps interoperate nicely to let users do what they want?

my primary problem with most blockchain-based technology & most cryptocurrency is that it's insufficiently private & susceptible to network analysis, because everyone can see everything happening on the chain—but I don't think web3 technology is useless, either, because this isn't universally true

New OpenZFS release candidate just dropped with BLAKE3 as a checksum. phoronix.com/news/OpenZFS-2.2-rc1 This is another example of software engineers upgrading from weak/insecure algorithms to BLAKE3 (which is secure) due to BLAKE3's performance. ⤵️

Concept: authenticated feeds Even your "following" timeline places trust in your PDS to tell the truth. If each post came attached with the MST blocks to prove that a) you follow the user b) that they made that post, the client could verify. Algorithmic feeds could maybe use ZK proofs?

It's funny how this is completely flipped now. Geolocating images is hard because everyone is stripping EXIF, but bird classifiers are plentiful (admittedly, we've had at least 5 research-team-years of effort focused on the problem domain since then)
