Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 04/11/2025Competing interests?? What do you mean? There's only two interests: the evil wealthy and the regular, poor, downtrodden. If it ever looks like the wealthy are competing, it's really just 4D-chess they're playing to trick us normal people! 120
Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 04/11/2025No you see, in this age Republicans are responding to what their audience wants. This is 100% an influencer government. Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 04/11/2025All systems assume people will play by some set of common rules. There's no way to make a law or rule that says "don't break the law or rule... seriously, we really mean it." 000

Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 04/11/2025it's super easy to sit in the present and re-evaluate the past. We have the benefit of far more information and events to judge. They messed up big. But it wasn't malice. They were naive and far too cautious. They assumed they could re-unify the country. Obviously those goals are now dead. 020
Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 04/11/2025It's one thing for the campaign to talk about it. It's another thing for all the officers of the executive branch to agree. Biden and his staff made some grave errors. It's also easy to forget, but even Republicans in early January 2021 considered Trump done. Everyone was foolish to think that. 210
Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 04/11/2025So many on the left think the issue is that people aren't progressive enough. They fail to understand how deeply unpopular they are in many areas of the country. The Democrats represent a big tent party right now. They're not all going to be progressive darlings. Most will be moderate. 100
Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 04/11/2025I hope he does amazing things. I also think people, especially college educated ones, think he represents a revolutionary awakening in the US. That is naive. The country is, by and large, fairly moderate about most things. He works well in his locale, but that doesn't apply to the nation. 100
Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 04/11/2025Well the Democrats don't have an antisemitism problem. However, there are a lot of lefties who do have that problem. And lefties and Democrats are often conflated. The worst example of the left is held up as the norm and lambasted. Meanwhile, the worst of the right is dismissed and ignored. 020
Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 04/11/2025I think they were living like the old rules still applied. Minimize the politicization, don't interfere with the DOJ, and assume the process will play out fairly. They were so overly cautious that it backfired tremendously. Don't confuse malice here with negligence. They were far too trusting. 150
Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 04/11/2025Because they're all still wishing for things to "go back to normal." They really don't want the reality to be the way it is. It's so fundamentally difficult for them to realize the game has changed. Those Republicans who couldn't play by the new rules were replaced. Democrats haven't. 1292

Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 23/10/2025Republicans don't actually care about the filibuster being in place. They already have carve outs for the things they want: tax cuts and judges. At this point it only seems to hurt Democrats. Of course that assumes Dems will have the majority in the Senate in the near future. That's a tough one. 101

Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 11/10/2025It all very much looks like the MAGA playbook: close ranks around the leader, repeat the same talking points, deny the truth, and admit to nothing. Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 02/10/2025Yeah it's a sobering and important lesson. The safeguard to democracy and rights is not the law or the courts, it's the voters. Witness current events. There is no system that can keep people in line, if they're all determined to destroy those systems. 030
Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 02/10/2025Because the argument is peddled by people who know they will face no consequences. Zookdar @zookdar.bsky.social · 29/09/2025On a level I get it, sort of. Trump hated her, and that resulted in a kidnapping pot against her. Then Trump was considering a large federal base in the state, so she played nice to keep it open. And that worked. She seems to be avoiding any fights. I imagine there's no political future for her. 150
