Wild Wednesday falls on World Brain Day this week, so let’s talk about brains! We all know dolphins are smart. But did you know that they have a larger neocortex than human beings? The neocortex is responsible for problem-solving, self-awareness, & other behaviors we typically associate with humans.

It’s another wet and wild Wednesday. Ugh! Did you know that tigers are excellent swimmers? Unlike most cats, tigers appear to enjoy water and seek it out for cooling off and hunting purposes. My favorite patient, Globus, could often be found lounging in a pond on hot summer days.

It’s Wednesday,so let’s get wild! Alligators have about 75 teeth in their mouths at any one time, but as teeth wear down or break off, they’re replaced. As a result, many can have up to 3,000 teeth throughout their lives. I’ve never had an alligator patient, and quite frankly,I’m OK with that!🐊

It’s Wednesday! Time for another wild fact! Axolotls can regrow their limbs. They can regenerate missing limbs & internal organs within a few weeks. If it sustains a head injury and recovers without any scarring, it can rebuild its lungs, heart, and portions of its brain.

On this rainy Wild Wednesday, you may be wondering what animals do in wet weather……Well, orangutans behave like us! It’s not unusual for adults to make an umbrella from a large leaf while the young ones like to splash and play in the mud. Kids! Am I right?😉

For this April 1st Wild Wednesday, a fact that feels like an April Fool’s joke, but isn’t. Wombat poop is cube-shaped. This happens because of the way their intestines compress and dry the waste. The cube shape stops their droppings from rolling away, helping them mark territory more effectively.
