Giant anteaters Gloria and McCauley enjoy a nice meal together. 🍽️ Anteaters are mainly insectivores, snacking on termites and [you guessed it...] ants. But sometimes they eat eggs and fruit like avocados and oranges. 📷: Zookeeper Elsa

📣 We're happy to share great news about Jabari, our 16-year-old male giraffe, following his comprehensive health exam in July. Jabari took a few days to return to his normal routine following the procedure, but he is doing very well. Lab work was normal and there are no fractures in his foot bones.

Penguins aren't hatched knowing how to swim. Before our two new penguin chicks returned to the Penguin Pavilion, they took "swimming lessons" with animal care staff. Check out their progress and technique as they graduated from the kiddie pool to deeper waters and finally, to the penguin pool!

It's molting season. Some birds, like our Magellanic penguins, go through a complete loss and regrowth of feathers. Although sometimes rough looking, molting is an annual sign of good health. 📷: Female penguin Rose molting

Tiny chatterboxes: Cotton-top tamarins have developed over 35 distinct vocal calls. They communication with whistles, barks, chirps, and some high-pitched squeaks that cannot be heard by human ears!

Zoo Boise is sad to announce the passing of Sabu, a 12-year-old male snow leopard. Sabu was humanely euthanized following a continued decline in his health related to kidney disease and age-related conditions. Sabu arrived at Zoo Boise in 2020 and quickly became a popular member of our zoo family.
