Picked my #boardgame bag for Friday's game night in Quakertown PA. One is on my shelf of shame, the rest are tried and true. I usually host the new to the group or new to the hobby folks. We've been getting 15-18 people. I'm thankful for a strong core group that brings and teaches games. #boardgames

Played Yinzi: Ming and really enjoyed it, a few issues with the rulebook notwithstanding. This game is tight! 24 total actions, 10 possible actions to take. I sold to caravans, 2 opponents sold to ships. I tied for first but lost in the turn-order tie-breaker. #boardgames

Played Yinzi: Ming #boardgames, though only halfway through it given the 45m rules teach. Expect to complete 3p in <3h next time. All really enjoyed it. Action selection, # of choices on the board, worker placement competition, and ability to trigger bonus actions and abilities were all great.

At our Quakertown PA #boardgames night, Thunder Road Vendetta, Imhotep, Marco Polo II, Dune Imperium Uprising, and Everdell Emerland hit the table.

#Boardgames night on Friday in Quakertown, PA. Going with lower complexity. I usually host folks new to the hobby and try hard to match interest (including desired complexity) to the gamer. Last month, folks said they liked Wingspan and Smartphone so I taught Architects of the West Kingdom. 🧠🫠 Nope.

Delivery day. I played the original Yinzi #boardgames several years ago and was always on the lookout to get a copy. I was excited when it went to crowdfunding for a new version. If you wait long enough, good games get a reprint. Box is a lot bigger and heavier than I was expecting.

Taught the #boardgames Take 5 tonight. Had one of the rare occasions where the rows filled up. Everyone was squirming in their seats for the next card they had to play.

Four rows of five cards. Each card displays a single number between 1 and 104. It also displays a bull's head and bull icons. The icons indicate the number of points you must take when a row busts at six cards. Points are bad. Low score wins.

Gearing up to run a #D&D campaign. Been 15 years since I DM'd, so learning 5.5 as a player in a friend's campaign. Dusting off the homebrew campaign I've run on and off for 30 years. House rules done, starting town done, 1st adventure 60% complete - then will launch. And what is that? A paper map???

What can I say? I'm still old school. Using the D&D site for my characters, and plan to DM using it for rulebooks and my players. But otherwise it will be physical board, minis, and paper maps and phys reps. It was a ton of fun working this out.

Friday is my #boardgames night in the gathering room of a funeral home in Quakertown, PA. Yes, it has made for some interesting conversations. I bring games for 4-6 players of differing complexity. I usually host the new-to-the-hobby players so it's the lighter games that get typically get played.

We played Blue Lagoon #boardgames. 4 player, 1 hour, and I'm dead last. Must be an excellent teacher! Area control and 'lil set collection. Tense "if I go there, you'll have to decide if you're claiming A or B." Hadn't played in 3 1/2 years and continues to be a great game! (Cheap too.)

First play of Leylines #boardgames by Andrews and Kramer. This is a reimplementation of Kramer's 1987 version. It was fine. Pick up and deliver cubes to places based on contracts. Enjoyed the dice and racing to get resources before other players. Don't need to own it, probably limited replayability.

Played Zombicide Green Horde #boardgames, a favorite w/ my friend and I when our regular group of 3 can't meet (both fantasy genre / D&D nerds). Even with amped up situation, we made quick work of the scenario. Decided we'll try it again next time but with 4 survivors instead of normal 6.

It's been ~5 yrs since its last play. Tekhenu, Obelisk of the Sun, hit the table again. We really enjoyed it, in that crunchy Euro, frustrating choices way. I love the dice drafting/action selection, the point saladness, and early game tight resources. 3 players took just under 3 hours. #boardgames

Taught Acquire to my Finance future son-in-law, who was keen to play when I described the theme. We had a great 4 player game, though a little anti-climactic as 2 hotels dominated most of the board. Good time, lots of thinking and positioning. #boardgames

I ❤️ the table presence of Kramer & Kiesling's Porta Nigra #boardgames. It's a terrific mid-weight Euro for ~$20. Draw 2 cards, play 1 (that has 2-3 actions). Buy bricks, build structure, score points, fight for majority in 4 districts. Turn in influence for bonus action card. Great decision space.
