This is only the SECOND coastal flood advisory issued in the month of September...and high tide flooding is only going to get worse through December The King Tides taking place on Thanksgiving and Christmas are on track to break records. Prepare now if you live in a flood prone area!

Is Hurricane Rachel going to hit the US, similar to Polo? No, luckily Rachel will continue to be deflected away from the West Coast by an area of high pressure that's building over the Western US. BUT swells and beach erosion along southern California's coast is still possible.

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
A heat dome is building across the western us, bringing warm weather for the first week (or two!) of October🥵 But that will deflect all the tropical moisture from Rachel, Nineteen-E, or any other tropical systems to form in the next week!

Explaining what El Niño is and is NOT in around a minute: I’ll say it again…El Niño is NOT a storm!!! It’s a climate pattern featuring above-average sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. It doesn’t create storms, but influence where they go. @kpixtv.bsky.social

Eighteen-E is hot in Polo's tail, likely forming into T.S. Rachel by tonight. It won't be nearly as strong as Polo as it slowly moves up Mexico's coast this week. There's still a very high level of uncertainty where it goes after that, so stay up to date with the forecast! @kpixtv.bsky.social

This week's Zooming with Zoe answers the question of WHY winter weather outlooks are still so uncertain when it comes to El Nino events. Looking back on previous very strong El Nino years impacts help forecasters to figure out what's going to happen this year. @kpixtv.bsky.social

Leaves are just starting to be tinged with yellows and oranges across the Sierra Mountains…just a few more weeks until peak leaf peeping🍂

Hurricane Polo is a cat 5 today with winds up to 180 mph…but yesterday it wasn’t even a hurricane. This is all brought by El Niño, and the record warm water temperatures in the eastern pacific. The exact path/impacts to the US is still highly uncertain, stay tuned for updates! @kpixtv.bsky.social

It's wild that some people don't stop and watch the sunset - Mother Nature paints the sky for us every night, but we don't always get to see it. When you are lucky enough to time your day out right, this is your reminder to take a moment and soak it in🌅

Send me your sunset shots from tonight! A storm is diving south from Canada, expected sit and swirl across Northern California Wednesday/Thursday and cool down temperatures. Breezy winds 20-30 mph will accompany some more clouds tomorrow as well. Warmer and calmer by the weekend!

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
This week's Zooming with Zoe shows the latest El Nino forecast...including a 75% chance that this year's El Nino will be record breaking - exceeding the strength of all previous El Nino events dating back to 1950. What does that mean for the winter in California?

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Smoke from the Lucas Fire will drift south, moving overhead by late tonight and bring some hazy skies. As winds calm down into Monday, temperatures will warm up to seasonable. Tuesday will be slightly cooler along the coast, and by Wednesday inland areas will feel cooler too. @kpixtv.bsky.social

I love my job. @maxdarrow.bsky.social and I got to interview the original voice of Ash Ketchum from Pokémon, Veronica Taylor this morning!! I was geeking out, my inner child was so happy (I think you can tell😅)

HOW hot did it get today in the Bay Area?! Downtown SF was in the mid to upper 90s, and Santa Cruz reached 100° for the first time in nearly 10 years🥵 Napa reached 102°, with 100+ for many of our North/East Bay locations. Tomorrow will still be hot, but not as hot, before cooling down this weekend.

Parts of the Bay Area and down to the Santa Cruz Mountains are hotter than Sacramento today🥵

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
When will the heat and humidity finally come to an end across California?! It’s going to be downright soupy on Wednesday…Thursday will be slightly cooler thanks to onshore winds picking up, but it’s still going to be hot. By Friday, a cool down will FINALLY arrive along with stronger winds.
040
Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Weather whiplash is on the way for California...to start, heat and HUMIDITY especially will be building across the Bay Area. Wednesday will be the worst day with temperature inland well above 100 and even the coast will be in the mid to upper 80s It'll be cooler by the weekend! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
The heat is going to be ON across California for the first full work week in September, but the bigger issue will be the humidity that comes along with it. The entire state will feel 10-20° above normal. This includes the coast, where widespread high 70s/80s are likely...🥵
040
Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
A wave is currently moving up North America's coast, with sea levels forecast to rise ~1'...but that's not the big issue. El Nino creates Kelvin Waves, increasing water levels/sea surface temps for weeks at a time. All eyes will be on this winter when is comes to potential record coastal erosion.
050
Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
If you live in California get ready for a HOT and HUMID first full work week of September🥵 Tropical moisture from Marie mixed with a building heat dome will bring muggy weather this week, even along the normally cool coastal communities! Find ways to beat the heat!

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
Strong ocean swells with waves up to 10 feet all along the California coast will be the biggest weather issue for your Labor Day weekend - stay away from the water! But enjoy a lovely next couple days because it's going to get HOT and HUMID next week, California! @kpixtv.bsky.social

THREE hurricanes are currently swirling in the east Pacific…it’s crazy how much it looks like the satellite from The Day After tomorrow - obviously not in the same location and DEFINITELY NOT the same impacts, but it’s extremely rare to have three strong hurricanes this close to each other!

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Breaking down the TIMING an potential RAIN TOTALS for the Bay Area Thursday into early Friday: Location is everything! A line of showers will move from north to south across the area on Thursday. North Bay, especially mountains, will the see the most rainfall. @kpixtv.bsky.social

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
NOT likely a landfalling hurricane on the West Coast…but tropical moisture WILL likely bring impacts by the end of Memorial Day weekend to Southern California👀 Humidity, rough seas, and light rainfall will be the biggest impacts - definitely not a hurricane! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Potential Tropical Cyclone FIVE, likely strengthening into Tropical Storm Edouard later today, will bring widespread impacts from Louisiana to Texas. Storm surge and winds will be an issue, but the biggest threat is heavy rain/flooding with 5-7" likely around Houston. @kpixtv.bsky.social

Bay Area!!! Are you ready for a little taste of fall heading into the first week of September?! A series of storms will move over the Pacific Northwest, bringing cooler than normal conditions across central and northern California! There may even be a few raindrops Wed/Thurs👀 @kpixtv.bsky.social

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Water along SoCal's coast has been HOT...well, for the Pacific at least. Sea surface temperatures are in the mid 70S, which is about 5-10° above normal for August. And did you know this has NOTHING to do with El Niño?! This is an ongoing marine heatwave since May 2025. @kpixtv.bsky.social
083
Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Disneyland, CA was MORE humid than Disney World, FL?! But WHY?! 1. Remnants of tropical storm Iselle (the same reason we had such stunning sunsets!) 2. Marine heatwave along the California coast. But we’re going to get a little taste of fall next week…and I’m ready🍂

I didn’t get to see the maximum blood moon (BOOO SF’s fog) but at least the clouds cleared enough to see the last hour of the eclipse!!! Did you catch it tonight?!? Comment your pictures if you took any please!!! Especially if you caught the red tinge on the moon❤️🌕

The microclimates were in full force across the Bay Area this afternoon...just take a 20 minute drive east or west from Oakland and you'll drop or jump by 10°+! And elevation has an impact too! Above the marine layer, Grizzly Peak warmed up nearly 10° more than Oakland! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Comment your sunset pictures from this week!!!! As a belated birthday present, I’d love if everyone would use this post to comment all your gorgeous sunset pictures from across the Bay Area/California this week! (Even if you’re not from the Bay feel free to share your sunset shots)

WHERE are all these stunning upper level clouds over California coming from?! They actually traveled hundreds of miles from the Central Pacific to end up in the Bay Area! And they're going to stick around, bringing BEAutiful sunsets through the end of the week...if you can get away from the fog!
030
Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
Did you notice more high level clouds today across California? This is all brought by a thin stream of tropical moisture making it's way across the Pacific. These high clouds will stick around all week, bringing some lovely sunsets...if you can get away from the fog! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 15/08/2026
Sunday afternoon's forecast high temperatures: it's all about the MICROCLIMATES this time of year! But this is why we live in the Bay Area! If it's too hot (or too cold!) where you are, just take a short drive to find your perfect temperature...it changes by nearly 20° only around 20 miles away!

Who wants to giggle while learning something new?! I thought it would be fun to teach Max a new scientific term, evapotranspiration, on air this morning. Have you heard of it before? I give @maxdarrow.bsky.social an A for effort😂 We try to have fun in the mornings. Tune in at 6 AM every weekend!

Get ready for the Bay Area's final 8 PM sunsets of the year🥲 Appreciate the later sunsets while they're still here...the last 8 PM sunset of the year is TONIGHT in San Jose! But in SF, it's not until Sunday...why? Tune in Sunday at 6 AM on @kpixtv.bsky.social for the science behind sunsets!

Want to watch the Perseid meteor shower in California tonight or tomorrow night?! You won't be able to see much in the Bay Area thanks to widespread cloud coverage...take a drive to Northern California or the Sierra (where light pollution is much lower too!) for the best views! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 09/08/2026
One more HOT day across inland California today before more seasonable weather returns to kick off the work week. Typical August weather will stick around through midweek, before the potential for a storm system to bring cooler, cloudier, and windier weather late this week! @kpixtv.bsky.social
020
Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
It was one of those mornings at work where my brain wasn't firing on all cylinders...😅 Orange, red, whatever color the alert is it's going to be HOT inland today! Luckily my worst mistakes happen when I'm recording weather cut ins after the show, not live!

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
The heat is going to continue to crank up across CA (and much of the Western US) this weekend, with widespread 100s inland. Living in the Bay Area, it's nice to be reminded how lucky we are... By next weekend, it's likely going to fee a lot cooler, cloudier, and windier here! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Wildfire smoke is blanketing the Pac NW...bringing unhealthy/very unhealthy air quality to many locations with air quality alerts in effect for the foreseeable future. This is all underneath a heat dome, with hot temperatures all week from Washington state through New Mexico.
020
Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
Wildfire smoke from the ongoing fires raging in the Pacific Northwest is currently making it's way down the California coast, ushered into the Bay Area by onshore winds. BUT the onshore winds are also keeping the worst of the smoke from the Gann fire away from us as well! @kpixtv.bsky.social
020
Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 03/08/2026
A heat dome has been parked over the Southwest for the past few days, which has protected the area from the Pacific Northwest's wildfire smoke. BUT as the heat dome weakens, smoke from the PNW will trickle down the California coast, pushing inland by Tuesday evening. @kpixtv.bsky.social
010
Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
Have you noticed it’s been more humid than normal across California? But also…somehow less foggy? SF observed the 10th most humid summer (so far) on record, LA the 8th and Santa Barbara the 4th most muggy in modern history. A big reason revolves around El Niño!

Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
The heat continues across California, with triple digits inland and even 70s along the coast🥵 Slightly more comfortable air will move in Tuesday - Thursday, before another heat up into next weekend...overall this warm weather pattern will stick around for AT LEAST the next week. @kpixtv.bsky.social
020
Zoe Mintz @zoemintz.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
It's going to be HOT HOT HOT this weekend across California...and the heat is sticking around early next week too🔥 Three days in a row of triple digit highs inland, while the coast is looking and sunshine and 70s! Definitely not typical August weather in the Bay Area...@kpixtv.bsky.social
