🎉 I am excited to share a preprint led by a Computer Science Co-Op/Honours student in my lab, Kylie DeViller. Kylie used comprehensive morphometrics to examine variation across 5700+ apple images describing independent variation in fruit shape and size. Great work!🍏🍎💻 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Morphospace of theoretical apples generated using inverse PCA with values for the measured 534 apple accessions indicated along PC1 and PC3.

Interested in fruit genomics, breeding, or ripening? Read our new article led by Sophie Watts in Fruit Research "Large-scale apple GWAS reveals NAC18.1 as a master regulator of ripening traits" to find out more 🧬🍏🍎 www.maxapress.com/article/doi/...
Population genomic analysis of 1,054 diverse apple accessions. The plot shows a Principal components analysis of genome-wide SNP data, with
accessions coloured by harvest date and with shape representing species. The accessions with higher PC1 and PC2 values are darker purple indicating that they have later harvest dates.

It's always pretty easy to spot the Turkish apple cultivar Kandil Sinap in the orchard of trees. Not many with shapes like this, even in Canada's Apple Biodiversity Collection of over 1,000 different apple trees.
