I played through my solo adventure yesterday in about 30-40 minutes. It was really fun!! Even though I wrote it, I was surprised and delighted. I used dice, pencils, and Cairn Barebones Editions (at the park). Play report: I died, but the captive I was trying to rescue escaped!!

Printed and spread out on a picnic table with dice, pencils, a sketchbook, a fanny pack full of art supplies and a bike helmet. There are notes and drawings scribbled on the 1 page dungeon, and dice being used to mark the PC and NPCs.

Opening tomorrow at HI.RES gallery, a show celebrating music, with original pieces painted on vinyl album covers. 306 E. Grace St., RVA. The show will be up for 3 months, gathering more pieces as it goes, and the gallery will be open for various events. I’m excited about this one!!

These last four are from the past month—my progress slowed a lot because I broke my collarbone (had a fall from my bike). I tried to draw left handed a lot, and later right-handed with the sling in. But it was frustrating. But, I’m healing up, got my sling off yesterday, and I’m ready to draw!!

'Wandering Path' from 2023. This is a scan of a mixed media piece, before I cut apart and framed the halves. This is a hard one to scan, combining wet and dry media, transparent and opaque. The real painting has blotches of fluorescent orange, which scanned as a sort of dull light pink.

I use exercises like this in my sketchbook classes, sometimes iterating on the process instead of the results. Like, have the students pick a random toy out of a bag. 1. Draw it from observation 2. Do a blind contour drawing of it 3. Draw the object with your off-hand
