Finally reading Morgan Ames's book about One Laptop per Child, The Charisma Machine. Charismatic technology is such a great term.

Excerpt from a book:
'In this account, a charismatic technology derives its power experientially and symbolically through the possibility or promise of action: what is
Important is not what the object is but how it invokes the imagination through what it promises to do. The material form of a charismatic technology may be part of this but is less important than the technology's ideological commitments--its "charismatic promises."'

I love the little demon drawing in this wikipedia article.
Screenshot of a wikipedia article about Maxwell's Demon thought experiment. The top shows a diagram with two squares divided in half with small doors operated via string by a demon with a pitchfork, horns, and pointy tail. Inside the squares are red and blue dots, representing fast and slow-moving particles, respectively. On the left square, the demon opens the door from one half of the square to the other half only for a red dot. On the square in the right, the demon has closed the door and one half of the square is filled with blue dots and the other half with red dots.
What follows is the text from the Wikipedia paragraph.

In the thought experiment, a demon controls a door between two chambers containing gas. As individual gas molecules (or atoms) approach the door, the demon quickly opens and closes the door to allow only fast-moving molecules to pass through in one direction, and only slow-moving molecules to pass through in the other. Because the kinetic temperature of a gas depends on the velocities of its constituent molecules, the demon's actions cause one chamber to warm up and the other to cool down. This would decrease the total entropy of the system, seemingly without applying any work, thereby violating the second law of thermodynamics.

The Max app has a special section for Mothers Day to promote HBO series called "Mothers of Max." For The Sporanos, they show Carmela. They could have done the funniest thing and showed Livia instead.

This is from Cyberlibertarianism.

Unlike many academic and even political debates, those over the politics of the digital are conducted between one side that directly represents the interests of existing and new businesses and the accumulation of capital more generally; the *other" side consists of academics and other writers who believe the ideas at issue are fundamentally questionable. Further, nonprofits like the Mozilla Foundation and the Open Society Foundation- to say nothing of NGOs with explicit tech-lobbying roots like EFF, CDT, and the parts of ACLU that focus on digital technology (see Franks 2019a), which on the surface looks as if it could not possibly be pro-business provide critical propagandistic power for the unfettered development of technology. For contrast, truly pro-regulation and pro-democracy NGOs like the Electronic Privacy and Information Center tend to promote much more skeptical and well-considered platforms but receive much less attention than do the others.

I'm disappointed. There was no tech bias element in Werewolf Lawyer like the Storygraph AI said there would be. Instead, it was just a high-stakes, can't-put-it-down legal thriller about a lawyer defending a werewolf in murder trial.
Screenshot from the Storygraph app page for Shea Serrano's "Werewolf Lawyer"
The personalized recommendation generated from an AI reads:

"Werewolf Lawyer" intersects with your interests in societal systems and critiques through its legal thriller lens, which aligns with your appreciation for works exploring power dynamics (e.g., colonialism in "The Anarchy," tech bias in "More Than a Glitch"). However, its fantasy genre and potentially pulpy tone diverge from your preference for grounded, research-driven narratives focused on real-world issues like racism, labor, or surveillance. Consider if you’re open to allegorical critiques wrapped in genre fiction versus direct sociopolitical analysis.

Another post shows images of words people had drawn on the side of a dirty Cybertruck with their fingers, which included “KYS [Kill Yourself],” “Cyber Chode,” “CUCK,” and two different penises, one of which was hairy and ejaculating. The owner of the Cybertruck posted videos taken by his Cybertruck that showed two snowboarders scrawling the art on the truck. A photo posted by the owner after “two washes” showed that one of the penises faintly remained on the car. Another commenter showed that someone had similarly written “SELL THIS” on the side of his dirty Cybertruck, while another posted a screengrab of a man spraying shaving cream on his Cybertruck. Photo of the back of a Tesla Cybertruck in a snowy environment. Someone used their finger to write and draw pictures on the tailgate. Yiu can seer "CUCK" and "cyber chode" as well as an ejaculating penis (complete with vein and hair on one of the testicles).

Interesting article on 404 Media about posts on a Facebook group for cybertruck owners.
Not every post in the group is about people hating Cybertrucks or Elon. Many of them are image posts of people showing off vinyl wraps they have put on their Cybertrucks, while others are videos of random people taking photos with the cars or who are curious.

One member posted a video of Mennonite men who just happened to be glancing at the car. Another posted a video of a clearly identifiable man who just happened to be walking by and turned to look at a parked Cybertruck. One Cybertruck owner posted a video of a mother and her two young children taking a photo in front of the truck. “Does this seem suspicious to anyone?” they said.

www.cell.com/current-biol... Scientists observing elephants using a hose as a tool to bathe themselves at the Berlin zoo noticed one elephant deliberately kinked the hose or stepped on it to stop the flow of water when another elephant she had beef with was using it.
Video still shows two elephants in a concrete zoo yard. One holds a yellow water hose and is spraying it on its body. The other elephant, standing about 10 meters away, is grabbing the hose off the floor and twisting it with its trunk. Text indicates that this is from a video at 25% slow motion.
