💤ʰᵃˡ @zhal9k.bsky.social · 9hI've been watching stuff on HBO Max (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon) and I'm annoyed how starting an episode gives you an ad for some other show on their service, then recap and then intro. 😩 Sure there's skip for each but that's three clicks more than ideal. 💤ʰᵃˡ @zhal9k.bsky.social · 14hSounds about what I expect from this director in these genres after Fangs of Fortune. I hope his next show Hidden Shadow, which is supposed to be back in wuxia, returns to My Journey To You's style more than whatever Fangs of Fortune and Veil of Shadows is trying to be. 110
💤ʰᵃˡ @zhal9k.bsky.social · 14hAlso about the dodgy vfx. Yeah, from what I've seen these xianxia/xuanhuan/cultivation shows are full of that. 110
💤ʰᵃˡ @zhal9k.bsky.social · 14hThat scene in the clip was cool. I think I sampled two episodes of this earlier this year and I didn't completely dislike it, just had other shows to watch, so might actually get back to this at some point. Maybe depending on how you judge it. :) 210

💤ʰᵃˡ @zhal9k.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Nope. The only show that I've watched where she's in any kind of main role is the Duel on Mount Hua prequel of Legend of Heroes, though I wouldn't recommend watching it before Legend of Heroes. :) 010

It was the newest viral sensation. Except... that's not actually the full story. 💤ʰᵃˡ @zhal9k.bsky.social · 24/09/2026There's also a boss fight that might actually be even cooler than the Moonlight Gazing Maiden one. And just like with that maiden boss, the music is excellent. Especially cool how it reuses the main theme to strengthen certain story themes. 💤ʰᵃˡ @zhal9k.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I finally played through the Hexi expansion's epilogue and it definitely did a whole lot to redeem an expansion that had otherwise felt very much like a side story. 111

💤ʰᵃˡ @zhal9k.bsky.social · 22/09/2026One minus for using AI generated effects for some of the visual effects. Which is kinda disappointing because apparently they did quite a lot with practical effects and filmed on location. 020
💤ʰᵃˡ @zhal9k.bsky.social · 22/09/2026missed some important details and especially didn't have the Chinese literary knowledge to appreciate certain themes and symbolism. 💤ʰᵃˡ @zhal9k.bsky.social · 22/09/2026audio visually. Ever since I started watching cdramas, I've wished for shorter shows, and this is just the right amount at 13 episodes. 💤ʰᵃˡ @zhal9k.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Finally finished this and yeah, on technical side this was more of what I've wanted from (wuxia) cdrama. Actors are top notch and their characters feel like actual characters that live in this world. Xu Bing is a very good director and it's a joy watch someone who understands how to tell story 110
