Free allowances could let most waste incinerators dodge the EU's new carbon price, analysis finds
Most of Europe's incinerators could escape a large share of the new carbon cost the EU plans to introduce, according to new analysis by Zero Waste Europe.

What does this actually mean? Operators get an additional decade where the costs for polluting the climate are so low that they have no incentive to invest in more circular solutions. Read our new report on carbon pricing in the EU ETS 🆓 zurl.co/vSbAy

The missing carbon price signal: how free allocation could blunt the EU ETS signal for incineration - Zero Waste Europe
With the inclusion of incinerators in the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), this briefing models the carbon cost incinerators will actually face.

Getting incinerators included in the EU ETS was and is a massive win 💪 But… because, there is always a but... The proposal allows certain types of plants – specifically, combined heat-and-power (roughly 60% of EU incinerators) – to get a carbon cost discount in the first part of the phase-in 💸
