I'm also trying to figure out how garbage should be handled in terms of how many chains sends how much garbage. Would something like this work?

1-chain of 3 -> 3 (3 x 1)
2-chain of 3 each -> 6 (3 x 2)
[...]

1-chain of 4 -> 4 (4 x 1)
2-chain of 4 each -> 8 (4 x 2)
[...]

Only sends a few rows at a time (Maybe 2? Maybe 4? I may make the board 12 rows tall, that way it divides evenly into 3 groups of 4 -> 4 columns of 7)

The good news is, the counter animation works just fine, minus some... ODD positioning of the arms that seems to just be part of the animation regardless, and just hidden by the neckerchief.

More progress! On a different sheet this time. Ignore the half-changed open-eyes sprite on the bottom, my break ended before I had time to finish it. Also I wonder if I could get away with just hue-shifting Squares's default hair whenever it's a separate sprite.

Progress so far! I chose a tough character to mod, 'cause his wrists are hidden and it's inevitably gonna screw with how things connect. Also I left my stylus in the cafeteria/main break room here and I'm not sure if it'll still be there by the time I go on break.

I'd have a much more open mind about all the Pokémon-likes/monster catchers coming out lately if, like, 90% of the praise I saw (and still sometimes see) surrounding Palworld before/during it's release didn't boil down to this:

"It's like Pokémon, but not developed by TPC/Game Freak, so that makes it a gazillion times better! This is the furthest I will ever develop this opinion."

Anyways (and this could also apply to St. Anima Saga and not just Project Summer Break, so I don't know why I brought it up), would it be too much of a style mismatch if the overworld sprites had more "realistic" proportions (e.g. image 1), but the battle sprites were more chibi (i.e. image 2)?

I would also appreciate some ideas for tome weapons. Since the idea is that each Tome "imparts" a spell (adds that spell to the character's spell set), maybe I could have the "tier 3" weapons add a set of three? (6 elements plus Arcane, with Arc. being covered by the Ancient Grimoire)
