Onbashira is from Nagano which is where Lake Suwa is located. He previously fought under his real name Hayashi Ryu and was a sandanme regular before falling down from injury Today was his first match as Onbashira and he won it handily Here's hoping he continues to enjoy the favor of the Suwa gods!

Touhou fans may know that the characters of Kanako and Suwako are loosely based on the myths of the Suwa region. In reality, onbashira are sacred pillars at shrines around Lake Suwa. There's also a festival where people ride logs down the mountain to be raised as onbashira.
