Every backyard cook reaches for the same few numbers: how hot the grill is, what size skillet, how much meat fits the Dutch oven. In 2015 we put them all on one page for Fired Up Food's launch issue.

Grill Temperature chart over a kettle grill of glowing coals, mapping heat from 225 to 650 degrees Fahrenheit to dial settings, a thermometer, and the hand test counting how many seconds you can hold your hand five inches above the grate.

Vinaigrette chart showing the ratio for a marinade or salad, three parts oil to one part acid, drawn as a divided circle pointing to a steak and a green salad.

Woods for Smoking wheel drawn as a tree-ring cross-section, pairing nine smoking woods (cherry, oak, hickory, maple, mesquite, pecan, apple, alder, peach) with icons of the meats each one suits.

Dutch Oven Sizes chart lining up cast-iron Dutch oven numbers 6 through 13 against top diameter, bottom diameter, depth, quart capacity, and pounds of meat each holds.
