Reincarnation of S1 Zeno: Only partial or foggy recollection of older events.
Memories they keep are namely moments that they perceive as failures, such as their death to Ramseyer or giving up their life to TMCMoon.
Moments of peace, such as the boat ride post-pirate war and post 6belowzero experiment, are blocked out by their own inability to acknowledge that they could have calmer times.
He perceives S1!Zeno’s actions as unreasonable, and wants to be the “better version” by behaving the exact opposite of them
[S1] Loyalty led to death -> [S2] Refusing to keep loyalty to one person
[S1] “Wasted” their time trying to ensure someone else was safe -> [S2] Prioritizing self over other
He’s unable to comprehend why S1!Zeno valued the lives of others so much at the expense of their own life. The fact that S1!Zeno died so many times for someone else makes S2!Zeno incredibly afraid of dying unexpectedly.
That fear of death drives them to protect themselves no matter what. Living in a world full of hate is terrifying. His only goal is to make a world where he can live happily with other people, without the fear that he might get too close and get sacrificed for them.
To his core, he still loves people as a whole.
