Eww... that's the sort of electrical nonsense I'd usually be pointing accusingly at Optare for.

When I got my Trabant back in 2023 it was extremely obvious that the gearbox was unhealthy based on the "interesting" noises it made. Finally got around to swapping it at the weekend. Three years in I STILL keep being surprised how pleasant this car is to work on.

I still think any show centred around tech for me is spoiled because I grew up with Bugs as my intro to the spy drama meets tech nerd genre.

Always enjoy the game of seeing how many you can spot on the drive up to Scotiacon. Probably never going to beat 2016(?) though when we accidentally stumbled across the actual convention convoy.

Probably not too bad. Unsure whether last game played was Minecraft or Euro Truck Simulator...but either way odds of survival with my sanity relatively intact for a year would be pretty good. Heck, I might even get better at using Redstone...

Sadly I think a lot of the (especially older) owners still think they can get away with the same amount of "deferred maintenance" that the XUD would tolerate without even noticing. Expensive lesson to learn!

Computer nerd has won out over furry in this category for me so far. Equally I've had the same image there for probably the best part of a decade now because I'm too lazy to figure out a new one!

Aye, they'll just sit there in the bottom of the fridge for ever more otherwise. Not sure if there's much hope for the "process before 1989" 110 stuff though! Even if I am half tempted to give it a try just to see what the heck happens.

Just had a dig in the fridge. These are yours if you want them. Absolutely zero idea if any are any good or indeed when they're even from, but I'm never likely to do anything with them. Black ones are Superia 160 and Kodak Gold 200.

One of the furry community's originals, Roz Gibson, is in really big trouble. She is in kidney failure, and needs a donor, so please reskeet. www.furaffinity.net/journal/1138...
I’ve thought long and hard about making this post, but really, at this point, I don’t have much to lose. Desperate times, and all that.

TLDR version: I need a kidney transplant, and I’m looking for a donor. Read below for all the gory details.

Since late 2019, right before Covid hit, I’ve been battling a serious illness. I’ve been kind of cagey about what exactly is wrong, for a number of reasons, but here’s the truth—I’m in full kidney failure.

There is no history of this in my family, so when the symptoms began appearing I didn’t recognize them until it was too late. By the time I went to a doctor my kidney function had dropped into the single digits. Most kidney failure is caused by diabetes or high blood pressure—I got some weird kidney disease I can’t even pronounce and never heard of: Oxalate Nephropathy.

By adopting some dietary changes and careful monitoring, I was able to limp along with reduced kidney function for several years. But you don’t appreciate how much your kidneys do to keep you healthy until they stop working. There’s constant fatigue and nausea, and a general feeling of unwellness that never goes away.

But eventually I lost even what minimal function I had left, which left the end of the line for kidney disease: dialysis. As of this point I’ve been on dialysis for about 3 years. Let me tell you—dialysis is its own special kind of hell that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. But even that is just a stop-gap measure, and my condition is continuing to get worse. Despite this, I’m trying my best to live as normal a life as possible. I’m extremely lucky I have a job that’s willing to allow me 9 hours a week for dialysis, so I’m still working. On weekends I work on my art and comics, and one or two days a month I do my volunteer work at the bird-banding site. I can even travel to see my family—if I arrange for dialysis at a local clinic ahead of time.

All of that is done while trying to deal with the symptoms of kidney failure. I’ve known 4 people who were on dialysis—none of them worked or really did much of anything, and at this point they’re all dead, which doesn’t really give me a lot of hope for my future.

Which brings us to the point of all this—I desperately need a kidney transplant. That is the only thing that will give me a chance at a relatively normal life. I’ve been approved and on the transplant list for a few years, but the waiting period in California is very long. By the time I get to the top of it, I may be too sick to get one. Right now I’m still in relatively good condition, comparatively. A transplant from a living donor lasts much longer and is better in every way than one you get from a deceased donor.Unfortunately, everyone in my immediate family is too old or has other health problems that preclude donation. So this post is a desperate attempt to find anyone willing to donate. I realize donating a kidney is a lot different than giving ten bucks to a GoFundMe, but as I said at the beginning, at this point I don’t have much to lose by asking.

Here is the living donor site: https://www.uclahealth.org/medical-.....t/living-donor

You can inquire and even arrange to donate completely anonymously if that’s what you want. Hopefully there’s a Jack Salem fan out there who wants to see the stories (and the artist) continue for years to come.

That is all.

Why is the mainstream news not talking about this? Too focused on the social media ban properly. Never mind installing software to scan everything on it which no doubt they could reconfigure, with no say, to scan for anything/everything else. www.techradar.com/vpn/vpn-priv...

This #FursuitFriday spans eight years. Back at Scotiacon 2018 I utilised the shopping bag hook of @doraneirok.bsky.social to hang my connbadges on. At ConFuzzled this year, with me finally getting a suit he had his chance for revenge and did the same to me. I absolutely deserved that.

If you've not had a chance before Lomo's Metropolis film is great fun for architecture shots - especially cityscapes/Brutalist architecture with a slightly dystopian vibe to it.

Will look better when I've got long sleeves on, but it was 30C and I was working with what I had on hand! Thanks so much for making him. Was really glad to see that the Kobold found a home during the convention as well. Maybe get a photo of them together next year!

Sudden realisation that I can totally do #FursuitFriday posts now... So here's me considering what to happen to next. Snapped at Cfz 2026 by @doraneirok.bsky.social during the suit's first outing. Made by @creaturecave.co.uk - sure there will be plenty more of these to come in future.

Nothing surprises me these days. Couple of years ago I stumbled across a broken down Freelander in a dodgy spot. Was out of fuel. Turns out the driver didn't know you had to put fuel in because "Her husband does all that mechanic stuff." Didn't have tax, insurance or an MOT either!

Until you realise that it was actually that 8mm socket that you'd forgotten was on the floor and you've been meaning to retrieve for the last month...then end up debating whether you need to go spelunking in the vacuum cleaner to find it. No, not speaking from experience. Of course not. Why?

Trabant is actually a P601S, but "Trabant" really is all most people need to know. Always fun to see the sheer variety that turns up - Having a Bentley and Trabant parked virtually next to each other in a show is always fun.

There is no help, only the slippery slope into madness from the inevitable "Oh that one looks interesting..." Which follows. I really need to make a rule about not going upstairs in ImageX in Bicester - every time I do I come out with another camera!

Have you found yourself in the position of having a Reform councillor?

Here’s how you can help your brand new councillor settle into local government properly: email them this week with an actual council problem to solve.

Got rubbish piling up? Email them.

Bus vanished from existence? Email them.

Streetlights dead? Email them.

Care package delayed? Email them.

Pavement like the Somme? Email them.

Send them in by the hundred. Make sure they’re made very clear on what their job is.

Being a councillor is not standing in front of the Union flag shouting about dinghies on GB News. It’s reading committee papers at midnight, attending meetings nobody enjoys, holding surgeries in church halls, and dealing with the endlessly glamorous world of drains, social care budgets and recycling disputes.

Welcome to local government.

The boats are in Kent. The bins are in your ward.

The email address for your ward councillor can be found on your local council website as soon as it’s updated.

Feel free to copy and paste to share wider.

Hmm...I wonder if pretty much the entire upper drop link bush being missing in action might be responsible for the god awful clonking noise from that corner of the Rover P4. Other side isn't far behind. New pair ordered.

Hardly groundbreaking, but any progress is progress. Figure this wire just being stuffed into the connector rather than being you know...connected...might have something to do with the temperamental brake warning light (especially having been here with my last P4). Light on the dash now works.

All of the engine bits are now back in the engine bay rather than the boot. Progress! Carb still needs a little dialling in, but running far better now I've set the tappets, brought some sanity to the carb settings and got the timing somewhere vaguely close to right. Onto the rear brakes next.

Quick and easy improvement job on the Rover before lunch today. The random neon red HT leads had been making my teeth itch since the day the car arrived here. I'd like to go back to the factory setup at some point but it's a fair way down the wish list yet. Discreet will do for now!

I'll take that, especially after last week's foul up. Had me going initially as we had a tight intake valve on no 5 so I had a dead miss initially. Oil change now, then get the valve clearances set properly rather than by Mk I Eyeball as we have so far.

I have now joined the club of Rover P4 110 owners who have made the mistake of forgetting to put the fluffing O-ring that sits between the head and water pump in place before installing the cylinder head. D'OH! I'm not the first and I definitely won't be the last to do this!
