Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 16/10/2026Thanks buddy, extra points for the use of one of my very favorite memes 🙏 120 2
Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 16/10/2026Also since most of if not all of my pieces are nature focused I find that also helps with mistakes: it's easier to disguise mistakes within organic textures and shapes and if its really really egregious I can always cover stuff up with extra foliage for example. 110 1
Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 16/10/2026I avoid white ink at all costs unless I'm way too far into a piece or it's a comic page or something where the cleanliness of the original art doesn't matter as much. 030 3
Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 16/10/2026Since my drawing style is many many fine lines, it's actually pretty forgiving: if a line gets wobbly or escapes a shape I just slightly obscure it with rendering or sometimes lightly fade the ink with a ink rubber. 160 6
Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 16/10/2026Good question! I ink over printouts of my sketches and I tackle what I perceive to be hardest bit of the drawing first. Often restarting until I get it right ( faces are the usual focus). Once I'm happy with those I usually commit to inking the rest with little mistakes. I work slowly to avoid them. 100 1

Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 15/10/2026He paired it with relaxed laws so landlords can raise rents even higher and charge 3x times the rent as security deposits. As to the "selfish" claims he says there isn't a housing crisis and that people are importing greavences from other countries. The man lives in an alt reality 000 0
Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 15/10/2026The charm of Riso is that it has some of the same qualities of hand-pulled screen printing even though it's a very different process. Apparently it was never meant for illustrations with my degree of detail, I've been told, but my printers are exceptionally competent with that tech. 010 1

Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 15/10/2026Rent takes away probably 80% of my monthly earnings, and the costs of living only keep getting higher. This is true for most of my peers in Portugal. When people here dare protest the housing crisis this is the reply from our government. Our PM gaslights us with some fantasy about us being selfish. 3419 41
Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 15/10/2026Hypothetically the limit of colors would be ones available in the Riso catalogue, but I'm no expert 000 0
Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 15/10/2026Well, to be fair it's not ALL they are doing, or to put it better that would severely diminish how extremely tricky and meticulous it is to align the color layers alone with Riso printers. Especially for works with this amount of detail. I personally never even seen prints like this done this way. 210 2
Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 15/10/2026Yeah pretty much, with the added factor that you can choose hot pink instead of magenta for example. 110 1
Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 15/10/2026I do know this: since the lineart is separate from the colors in the file I send them the black outlines aren't built up of the stacking of the different colors, it's overlayed on top of them. So even if colors deviate from each other during printing the black overlay ensures readability 080 8

Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 15/10/2026I can't claim to understand anything about the process as its the printers that deserve all the credit: I just digitally paint the piece like I would any other and they do the color separations. Here's a peek at the process: 220 2
Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 14/10/2026You really need to experience these in person: the colors are electrifying and full of a character only risograh can give them. 170 7
Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 14/10/2026The purpose of this print series is to fund the production of my next book but it's also a cool way to re-interpret old pieces, expecially because the printing done by Arco Ignis is so mind-blowing to me still. 2160 16

Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 12/10/2026There is a Portuguese saying: "o barato sai caro", which translates to "cheap ends up being costly" and nothing exemplifies it better than me buying and returning 3 different off brand USB to Lightning cables in a week because I refuse to pay 20 euros for an Apple branded one. 2340 34

Zé Burnay @zeburnay.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Solar Augur Riso sold out on my US shop but there are still some prints left on the worldwide shop (which doesn't ship to the US). If you want one, be aware that there are no plans for reprints. If I still have some of these when I next stock up the US shop, I'll make some available there again. 1299 29
