The US selling weapons to Iran's biggest arms dealer is similar to the capitalist selling the rope to the angry mob.

So the same people who considered Obama wearing a tan suit to be a major breach of decorum and unpresidential are now okay with modern day gladiator matches being held on the white house lawn to celebrate the president's birthday?

I thought that Trump needed to build a ballroom so he wouldn't have to risk going outside in Washington? How is it now safe for him to go to New York?

The UCP attempting to deflect blame to Nenshi and the NDP is obvious nonsense. But it's strategic nonsense. Don't mistake UCP malfeasance for incompetence. They know that their deflections are absurd.

If John Fetterman can claim to be a Democrat, maybe the solution to the US's problems is for progressives to start running as Republicans. Steal some of their rhetoric and use the same language as health scammer influencers. Vote Jon Republicanman: existing ideas with stupider names that you like.

The Centurion project's illegal app was clearly designed to give separatists access to our voter data so they could start adding fake signatures to their traitorous petition that would match the voter rolls during the random sampling. The entire petition is now even more suspect than it already was.

It's bad enough that Microsoft insists on trying to push copilot into every aspect of my work, can they at least not spend money trying to push it into my escapist tv shows?

The Chuck Norris memes are still funny, even if not as funny as they were originally when they were parodying his public persona. But let's not forget who he *actually* was - a far right hardcore Christian nationalist.

I swear I could happily slap whatever idiots at Volkswagen decided to put an underpowered alternator and an undersized battery into their Tiguan and then put an all electric power steering system into it that turns itself off on moderately cold days when tow trucks are in short supply. 🍋

Can someone explain to me how major US unions are siding with the fascists? WTF is wrong with Sean O'Brien and any other union member who backs Republicans in general and Trump in particular?

Hey @andrewknack.bsky.social do you think you could get your robocallers to not call me on my work phone twice a day given that I can't even vote for you? I neither live nor work in Edmonton.

Suggestion: A strike of musicians, writers, hosts, actors, lighting, electricians--everyone, shutting down all TV studios, until Jimmy Kimmel is reinstated. This is the kind of action we need, instead of sitting around just waiting to be gutted.

Democratic officials and supposedly left or progressive (or "woke" if you insist) media figures are trying so hard to not be seen as celebrating Kirk's death that they're actively helping Maga reframe him as a moderately conservative pundit / influencer. He wasn't. He was a 21st century Goebbels.

The new brownshirts can't easily abduct people if the people around them act to prevent it. Remember, "if you wonder what you would have done in Nazi Germany, it's what you're doing today"

American war planning usually takes place in highly secure facilities. But the Trump administration planned its strikes on the Houthis using a group chat—and accidentally included The Atlantic’s editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg. theatln.tc/IuULQFiY

The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

Akash Bobba, Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger, and Ethan Shaotran should not be ignoring requests for comments from the media, they should be getting subpoenaed by Congress to explain just what the fuck they think they're doing.

Trump's tariffs are nothing short of economic warfare, and any Canadian leader who isn't 100% on board with immediate retaliation is unfit for their office. Targeted retaliatory tariffs worked last time, and they're the minimum viable response this time. Turning off the taps and the power is step 2.

To repeat others: if you're in the US federal government, especially in the military and law enforcement and have always wondered what you'd have done in 1933 Germany, it's the same thing that you're choosing to do right now. History will not be kind to ICE agents who send children to Guantanamo.

In France, the people have general strikes and riots when their government tried to introduce photo radar. In the US, they elect a fascist and wring their hands and then meekly do nothing when he unilaterally puts a stop to Medicare for the nearly 1 in 5 citizens who rely on it.

So do the anti-Harris leftists who helped Trump win have any more clever comments on Trump's latest proposal to push the Palestinian population completely out of Israel so that they can completely level Gaza and reclaim all that valuable real estate?

“In my work with the defendants, I was searching for the nature of evil and I now think I have come close to defining it. A lack of empathy. It’s the one characteristic that connects all the defendants, a genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow men. Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy.”

Since the ADL had apparently lost the ability to recognize Nazis when they see them, perhaps someone should consult Mossad instead? They used to have pretty strong views on the correct degree of tolerance that dangerous Nazis deserve.

Any news organization that sane washes Elon's fascist salutes as "odd-looking", "unusual", or even "nazi-like" is part of the problem that led to this electoral result. Call a spade a spade you fucking cowards.

Also, any Albertans who want to be annexed by the US could just save time and fuck off across the border now. We shouldn't need a world war to figure out that this century's Sudetenland has no use for fascist traitors.

Two things come to mind just now: 1. The only good Nazi is a dead Nazi. 2. If it walks like a Nazi and it talks like a Nazi and it salutes like a Nazi, it's a damned Nazi.

Even if it were somehow true that tariffs were paid by the supplier rather than by the importer, why would anyone not expect that cost to still be passed on to the end customer? Who gets the initial bill for the tariff doesn't change who's ultimately going to pay.

Could people please refer to Trump as "President-Elect" until he's actually sworn in? All the media and social media commenters calling him President Trump are normalizing his acting like he's already in office.

I keep seeing people say that violence won't / doesn't solve anything. If that's true, then why did Boeing drop out of the public discourse within a couple weeks of a couple whistleblowers dying suddenly? The threat of violence seems to work pretty well from the top down.

If anyone is still thinking of buying a Tesla, ask yourself "why would Tesla be so opposed to crash reporting requirements?" Perhaps manufacturing cars the way the software industry develops software isn't the way to make cars that don't get people killed?

When conservative voters get excited at the idea of electing a leader who's going to run the government like a business, I wonder, "Do they think that we're the business' customers or their employees in that metaphor?" Because either way, that's probably not a good thing for us.

I've been trying to come up with a pithy simile to describe how incredibly stupid the idea of restricting puberty blockers to people who are years past being able to benefit from them. And I just can't find anything equally boneheaded.

Seriously, can we at least put "manifesto" in scare quotes? Everyone's been conditioned to think of Kaczynski when the media uses the word "manifesto" - but his was a 35,000 word dissertation. Luigi wrote a 240 word note. Calling it a manifesto just makes it easier to spin him as a dangerous lunatic

Why isn't anyone in the Edmonton media asking why a security company sent a new hire to work solo on his third day? Even if it didn't get Harshandeep Singh killed, there's no way that anyone is qualified to be doing that job on their own without any training.

Just watched the last half of The Sticky. The ending of everything that's wrong with modern streaming shows. They didn't actually finish the bloody story, and instead introduced several new twists and cliffhangers almost out of nowhere. Complete waste of the talented actors involved.

I've seen a lot of talk the last couple weeks about how no one's going to movie theatres anymore, or at least that no one went to movies this year. Why isn't anyone considering that Hollywood just didn't release many interesting movies in 2024? Very little except live action remakes and sequels.
