What you and so many others here on BlueSky don't seem to grasp is that X/Twitter is mainly a platform for governments, academics, corporations, researchers, institutions, etc to communicate. Only one small corner of X is political chatter.

Well said. If one wants to prevail the best place to start is a realistic assessment of the current situation.

You will believe what you need to believe. The most important test remains that governments, scientists, corporations, etc maintain active accounts, but very few bother posting to BlueSky. BlueSky became the echo chamber that the left wanted and needed and Elon won. And we all lost.

I joined BlueSky at the beginning thinking it was the only hope to kill Twitter and mute Elon. Sadly, that did not happen. Delude yourself if you must but it won’t change the fact that BlueSky failed to put a dent in Twitter/X.

BlueSky had a shot at making a difference, but early adopters chose to make it an echo chamber. They didn't want to hear voices from the right. BlueSky quickly plateaued and X continues to be the social media platform of choice for journalists, scientists, academics, corporations, & governments.

What's wrong with the foreign policy of the US being driven by the Commander-in-Chief's guy-crushes on his global peers?

Even the Editorial Board of the Murdoch-owned Wall Street Journal knows what Trump is trying to do with the Federal Reserve is wrong and urges Republicans in Congress to say no to the President.

What is the area beyond Russia's frontlines that Putin seeks to gain before agreeing to a ceasefire? Sudetenland?

No argument about the authoritarian threat, but the question that continues to be avoided is about the degree to which the academy alienated the public making this possible. What is it in American institutions that allowed them to become echo chambers unable to see the problem they were creating?

It was very well covered by the media when it happened on January 21, 2017. It was called "The Women's March" and it was one of the largest public protests in the history of Los Angeles.

For me it is interesting to point out mistakes to GPT and then have it explain why it has made the mistake.

It's not that Dems shouldn't fight the GOP, but on its own it's the same strategy that failed in 2016 and 2024. Dems need to offer voters more than anti-Trump rhetoric and the same old failed polices that have driven more and more voters into the arms of the GOP.

Certainly one of the above is true.

Do you know which state produces the most renewable energy in the US? Texas is #1 (139 TWh). California is #3 (87 TWh). Reality doesn't always conveniently fit our narrative. If we want to beat the Republicans we best open our eyes and see what is actually happening.

Yes and no. It is unknowable at this point in time how the burden of the tariff will fall. How much will be absorbed by the foreign manufacturer, how much by the distributor, how much by the retailer, how much by the consumer. And, how much thru adjustments in exchange rates.

And I believe that’s not % of GDP but the percentage each President increased the total federal debt over what he inherited when he first took office.
010
Zanello @zanello.bsky.social · 28/07/2025
If only it was that simple. Whenever the debt was first incurred we have to service it with today’s dollars and as it is rolled over we pay today’s interest rates. Dems (my party) like to deceive themselves about how much debt both Obama and Biden piled up. Both parties are responsible.

Zanello @zanello.bsky.social · 27/07/2025
All that said, Trump is certainly headed for the top of the national debt charts.

Zanello @zanello.bsky.social · 27/07/2025
Might want to check your numbers again. Numbers can be bent whatever way you wish--especially numbers that conflict with your narrative. Even by Investorpedia's assumptions FRD tops the chart but as of today Obama added more debt than Trump. www.investopedia.com/us-debt-by-p...

U.S. Debt by President: Dollar and Percentage
The national debt has increased under most U.S. presidents. Here is how much each president's time in office added to the U.S. debt by percentage and dollar amounts.

Zanello @zanello.bsky.social · 27/07/2025
More than 43 other presidents. Interesting. 43. So Trump has added more debt than any president other than Barack Obama. Very intellectually dishonest to omit that fact. We may despise Trump but that's no excuse for dishonesty.

I would add that Israel's game of giving support to Hamas prior to October 7, 2023 now more than ever makes it imperative for Netanyahu to destroy Hamas in an attempt to obscure the folly of his prior strategy.

Strange but true. By your logic Hitler did not want to destroy the Soviet Union because Germany was shipping steel and machine tools right up to the day before he invaded the USSR.

I don't know how you can say you are not convinced? Where has there ever been communism that did not lead to totalitarianism? A few months in the Paris Commune or Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War?

Zanello @zanello.bsky.social · 23/07/2025
What is socialism?
100
Zanello @zanello.bsky.social · 23/07/2025
But communism leads to totalitarianism under all conditions. USSR, China, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela. It's always the same story.
000
Zanello @zanello.bsky.social · 23/07/2025
I would not use the word cause. I would say that communism requires totalitarianism. It's the sine qua non.

...In Ukraine alone, Stalin gave orders that led to the starvation of 3-4 million Ukrainians and the Communist Party directly murdered perhaps another 500k. All pretty well documented in Timothy Snyder's Bloodlands. Or search "Holodomor".

Sort of but no. Lenin and his comrades had a vision of the worker's paradise they wanted to create. When the workers didn't want to go along for that ride Stalin led them at gunpoint. I think Stalin believed it was the right thing but paranoia got the better of him...

The party today in Germany that the DSA is most like is Die Linke The SPD is much closer to Biden’s Democratic Party. But Germany and the US are two different countries with two different political environments.

It wasn’t “tried” because they could never get past human nature. Trotsky proposed “permanent revolution” but Stalin murdered Trotsky and took the totalitarian path.

Zanello @zanello.bsky.social · 22/07/2025
That would be a false equivalence. If you want to know more about SPD just google “Gerhardt Schroeder + Russia”, the SPD Chancellor prior to Merkel. A man so vain and corrupt he makes Trump look subtle.

Last I'm going to say: in 2024 German voters resoundingly rejected Scholz & the SPD. SPD is now the #3 party in the German parliament. When he was Chancellor, the finance ministry was always in the hands of the center-right FDP. It's not the word socialism that leads to disaster, it's socialism.
