So let me get this straight Simon Edvidsson goes to the Wings and says “hello I would like to sign a long term contract to stay in Detroit for the best years of my career please” And the Wings just… won’t… for reasons??? 1/2 of one of the best young pairings in the league and they’re gonna fumble

Knies scores in his CBJ debut And if you weren’t expecting that then you might just be the dumbest hockey fan on the planet

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Through 2 games: Marchenko-Matthews-Roslovic: 83.3 xGF% Cowan-Paul-Sissons: 62.5% McKenna-Tavares-Nylander: 15% Yeah we’ve seen enough of that

010

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Delicate balance here because part of this is McKenna needs to grow into being an NHLer Butttttt I was already out on a McKenna-Tavares-Nylander line before the season, that trio just has zero ability to get the puck back once they’ve lost it It’s a disservice to McKenna to put him on that line

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Leafs take care of business Not the prettiest win but any win, especially early on is one to celebrate still Pros: - PK - Cowan-Paul-Sissons look awesome - Stolarz - Tanev is so so SO valuable Cons: - PP1 desperately needs a practice and probably a playmaker - Tavares fought the puck all night

The difference in crowd volume on the Sportsnet broadcast vs Amazon is insane Sportsnet makes a morgue seem louder than SBA, Amazon actually lets us feel the crowd noise Not saying the SBA is a rocking barn, but Amazon does it justice when things happen

020

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Two blatant makeup calls in the 2nd here First Tavares called for slashing when Cizikas stick was coming down on his and just snapped Now Paul called for hooking when his stick barely contacts the defender for 0.1 seconds

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Dude in his second career game really thought he was gonna hit this for his first career goal LOVE the confidence but chill Gav😭

010

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Inverse of last night, first 8-9 mins were pretty horrible, then 3rd line gets it going with a great cycle shift ending in a goal and the Leafs completely took control from there 2-0, feeling good, keep it going fellas

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Easton Cowan: 1 goal, 2 assists in 4 periods to start the year All the hype around McKenna (understandable) but year 2 cowboy looks like we’re in for a treat here too

020

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

What a fucking pass by Nick Paul to setup Colton Sissons for his first as a Leaf Also I didnt notice this last night but why did the Leafs change their goal horn to temu Calgary flames

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

This whole “home ice access” thing Amazon does with a zero commentary atmosphere type thing before the broadcast is awesome Just a camera following the team out for warmups, then just shots of the players warming up, this is awesome I’ll say it again: I would pay for a zero commentary broadcast

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

What I want to see tonight vs the Isles: 1. Is Stolarz back to 2024 form? 2. McKenna and Raddysh looking more composed, both seemed overwhelmed by the moment last night 3. Powerplay settling down a touch and looking more cohesive 4. More Marchenko and Matthews fun times

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Oilers comeback gimmick is the most predictable schtick in the sport

021

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Leafs may have lost but at least we don’t employ Tristan Jarry

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Another positive from tonight: Easton Cowan Cowan led all skaters with an 89% xGF at 5v5 tonight bouncing between the 2nd and 3rd line and had a beautiful give and go with Willy for the second goal Cowan will be a mainstay in the top six by the end of the year

010

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Oh also not that this wasn’t 100% expected, but yeah it’s gonna take McKenna a bit He’ll have his moments but remember he’s 18 and barely 165 lbs soaking wet

010

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

If you had told me the Habs would win this game 3-2 I would have said don’t make such an obvious boring prediction So shame on you hockey gods for giving us probably the single most expected outcome

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Honestly most emotion I’ve seen from Tavares in a while do that more this year please

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Alright Nylander you can get some credit for the offence but I’m not forgiving you in the DZ

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

McKenna-Tavares-Nylander Rielly-Raddysh Is the most absolutely unplayable 5 man unit in the defensive zone

021

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Alright I’m ready to be the biggest hater again these guys stink Not you Marchenko you’re my salvation

030

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Raddysh can go back to Tampa if this is how he’s gonna play Far and away the worst Leaf so far

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Marchenko and Matthews finding some chemistry early Marchenko has been the best Leaf on the ice tonight

020

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

McKenna-Tavares-Nylander performing as expected defensively Which is to say not playing it whatsoever

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

If Marchenko scored that it would’ve been so hot

010

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

First half of the period: good Second half of the period: bad Overall the Leafs certainly look like a team that has 10 new faces and hasn’t really had time to gel There’s like zero system, especially defensively, Leafs playing shinny which while fun will lead to some problems

110

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Colton Sissons not doing anything to convince me to be ok with him on line 3

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Josh Anderson goal vs the Leafs Might as well be the free square on the bingo card

131

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

If the Habs want to keep leaving 34 wide open in the slot I would appreciate it

010

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Took Marchenko 48 seconds to get his first point as a Leaf

041

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Let’s do that hockey Cheers to what hopefully should be a more fun Leafs season

010

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

That Leafs “rent free” promo vid for the season is so perfect Getting Willy to say they get mad because it’s always about the fucking Leafs (bleeped out in the video) while cheesing it up is so gold Finally the org embraces being hated by literally everyone

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

Everyone is all like “oh hey hockey is back” or “can’t wait to watch the Leafs tonight” and I’m sitting here like “but did immigration give Marchenko his visa yet?” Focusing on what really matters

110

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

The Leafs opening day lineup projects to have as many as 10 new faces, with Blakenburg being an additional new guy that’s likely healthy scratched to start Might be a rough October with so many new faces as the shortened camp means next to zero chemistry with the new guys

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

My favourite thing that’s going to happen is that the debate Leaf fans were having about whether Knies was a unicorn PWF or just a good complimentary guy to elite players is now about to expand to the rest of the league Except 31 other fan bases will universally say unicorn

100

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

6x12.5 for Marchenko yep that’ll do Has one more year at 3.8, then the cap is going up by 9.5 next summer so that’s perfectly cap raise will perfectly accommodate the extension here

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Montreal tried desperately to trade for both Knies and Marchenko just for them to be traded for each other fkn lol

141

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

McKenna-Matthews-Marchenko The most fun but dumb line coming to Leafs nation soon

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Trading Knies for Marchenko is a kinda weird trade, in that it’s a similar principle to when the Stars nearly traded Harley for Werenski this summer Knies likely won’t ever be as good as Marchenko, but he is younger, was a fan favourite, and was a gamer in the playoffs (rare in TOR)

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

For as much fun as Marchenko to Toronto would be I just don’t see it tbh From a Leafs perspective, you would want to add Marchenko to this F core to really legitimize the top 6, and not force 53/92 into roles unless they earn them But if it’s a hockey trade it likely starts and ends with Knies

110

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

Craig Button doing a hit on why the Leafs aren’t “anywhere close” to being a playoff team this season only fills me with more optimism (For the record I’m not sold but firmly believe they’ll be in the mix, and can sneak in if Tanev stays healthy/34 is close to his old form)

000

Zach (Professional Hater) @zachpayne41.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

Per Kyper, Toronto, Edmonton, Montreal all in on Marchenko Leafs and Habs just trying to prevent the other from getting him will make this acquisition price ridiculous but honestly worth it he’s so good I would trade Knies + for him idc
