Would it be inappropriate to look at them and speak like you're talking to a toddler. "Use your words" a somewhat immediate red flag for them to know you're not messing around but capable of civility. If they get upset and / or angry, just say "Aw big feelings." I must admit this isn't my technique.

The scifi genre is just Fan fiction written about our universe. Some really good Fan fiction but tell me I'm wrong. Star Trek: Utopian future Fan fiction. Cyberpunk: Dystopian Fan fiction. Marvel and DC: Superpower Fan Fiction. Don't underestimate Fan fiction. Those people grow up and write Canon.

Not personally but I've seen a few who have. Wouldn't recommend without a safety net. Messy way to go and very much not as quick as you might imagine. If you have enemies in mind then I can't reccomend it enough.
