Please enjoy the sound of a cool lido on a hot summer’s day. ☺️ This clip is from Shap Pool, one of a cluster of five volunteer-run village lidos in Cumbria’s Eden Valley. Find them on our Lido Map, here www.futurelidos.org/lido-map

Thanks to Greg Rosen and The Fabian Society for this excellent paper, just published, which argues for lidos for all and sets out a possible road map. As @andyburnham.bsky.social said yesterday, 'Let's make it happen'. fabians.org.uk/wp-content/u...

Public demand has always existed for accessible outdoor pools. Since 1960s leisure policy, they were slowly closed and replaced by indoor pools. We're finally seeing groups, councils and organisations finding more ways to restore and build. Plenty more work to do! theconversation.com/a-brief-hist...

The boom of lido construction in the 20th century was part of the post war public works programme, which aimed to create jobs and promote health.

Outdoor pools are much loved places of joy, and so they symbolise something. In this case, happiness and living well in later life. Presumably linked to pension security. Yet there are only around 130 available and accessible to the public in the UK. And no government plans to change this.

Fantastic news to see a new lease agreed which saves the wonderful Stanhope Pool. Fundraising needed to modernise before its open again. It's a vibrant community site of joy which is bound to get plenty of support! www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/2579704...

Huge thanks to all the MPs and allies who attended our event in Parliament yesterday, to celebrate and help sustain the 21st-century Lido Renaissance. We were overwhelmed by the depth and breadth of support. 🙏 #Lidos #FutureLidos

In December, the Grade II-listed Peterborough Lido was threatened with ‘mothballing’. Thanks to an overwhelming community response, and with our support, the lido was reprieved, and the council are now working to develop it for the future. #LoveLidos 🩵 www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/politic...
