Call Me Maybe Storytelling Series: Philadelphia
What happens when phones are tied to distraction, conflict and school climate? In this episode of the Call Me Maybe Storytelling Series, we visit Overbrook High School and South Philadelphia High School to learn about the Respect Our Phones pilot program, where students and staff are working together to understand phone culture, reduce conflict and build a stronger school community. From morning phone check-ins to restorative justice circles, students in the School District of Philadelphia reflect on what has changed, what still feels complicated and why student voice has to be part of any real solution. About The Call Me Maybe Challenge Created in response to the growing challenges of phone use in schools, the Call Me Maybe Challenge supports youth-centered solutions that balance focus, safety and student wellbeing. Seeded by Pinterest, the challenge funded seven YF Innovators working with schools and students to co-design stronger phone policies. Together, their work is helping schools move beyond blanket bans toward solutions rooted in trust, connection and student voice.
