The lack of alacrity is what bothers me. The other problem is, of course, there's almost no repercussions for prosecutors witholding evidence or otherwise screwing up the "fair trial" that precedes the "best damn hanging money can buy." I'd also like the jury to have some real skin in the game.

When I was a child, my Mom instilled in us a simple rule: “If you didn’t put it there, why are you touching it?” This has held up for over a half century and kept me out of many “mean” situations. I’ve also found a “My bad…” and genuine effort to make things right rather than blamecasting serves.

This apparently got his ass beat. As in, admitted to ICU with brain swelling got his ass beat. Never did find out if the injuries were permanent, but did hear he got a lifetime pilot’s ban and some jail time.

Was in Germany. A local aviator thought it would be funny to buzz our post several times at really low altitude. Nearly got shot down by the Bundeswaffe. According to the Polizei who came to our emergency operations center (I’d become the OIC just the week before), he “did not comply” on landing.

The reason Graf Spee put into Montevideo was she’d had components damaged that made return to Germany highly unlikely. Neutrality rules, the sheer certainty some member of the 1st Battlecruiser Squadron would make an appearance, and being low on ammo then made destruction a near certainty.

The Royal Navy had done wargames pre-war to figure out the “pocket battleship” problem. The belief was 3 cruisers could either sink or sufficient cripple a Panzerschiff that heavy units could then catch her. There was criticism Harwood was not aggressive enough, but he proved the wargames right.

I remember, as a child, we would almost always sleep in the van when driving cross country. Indeed, one of the places my Mom always stopped was Scott AFB (Dad was a retiree). We'd park in the big MAC terminal parking lot and sleep until the next morning when the sun came up.

One of my best friend’s Dads is a priest. The Church has made a conscious effort to recruit men, mostly older, who have been married (either annulled or widowed), parents (adopted or natural), or otherwise had “life experiences.” Something, something credibility.
