There’s a reason why ICE has lost 10,000 times in detention cases — and why it’s losing in the court of public opinion. My thoughts on @velshi.com about landmark reporting from @kyledcheney.bsky.social, who exposed the vast number of illegal detentions of Dreamers, children, refugees and more. 👇

We asked them to risk their lives for us. They did. We promised to bring them here. We haven't. Now we're offering them the Taliban or the DRC.   I joined @theweekendprime.bsky.social to talk about the 1,100 Afghan allies -- including 400 kids -- waiting to see if the US will keep its promise.

A broken promise and a betrayal of America’s longest wartime allies. The State Dep’t says it's closing Camp As-Sayliyah today, where ~1,100 Afghan allies have been stranded, with some offered money to return to Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. My take in @scrippsnews.bsky.social

As I shared with @apnews.com, today’s shakeup at DHS should be seen as an opportunity to course-correct on immigration. That means functioning processing systems, upholding legal commitments, and ensuring enforcement doesn’t undermine civil liberties, as we’ve seen far too often.

Horrific and unacceptable. Nurul Amin Shah Alam came here through legal pathways, fleeing religious persecution and genocide. Instead of the safety he was promised, he appears to have been abandoned by federal immigration agents -- blind and alone on a freezing cold night.

HUGE news! This is about a Trump admin effort to arrest thousands of screened and vetted refugees in Minnesota and fly them to Texas to be jailed and then interrogated. After the interrogation is over, people are being dumped on the street and told to find their own way back.
NY Times headline and photo + caption

They Had Done Everything Right?
ICE Detained Them Anyway.
Dozens of refugees with valid status have been sent from Minnesota to Texas to be revetted, prompting a lawsuit. Those released have had to pay their way back.

Underneath is a photo of DHS officer with a kiss and a gun getting out of a car. The caption reads as follows: “More than 100 refugees with no criminal record from about a dozen countries have been detained in Minnesota by agents in recent weeks.”

Operation PARRIS is one of the most heinous things this administration has done yet. Trump’s people ordered ICE to round up 5,600 legally present refugees, people who have done NOTHING wrong, with no warning, and jailed them in Texas to be interrogated about their status.
The R&R finds that Ms. Lah's continued detention under the facts of her case is not supported by the relevant statutes and regulations and the Court agrees. Ms. Lah is a legal refugee who took the proper steps on the first available date to apply for a status adjustment. It is through no fault of hers that there has been no movement on her application. There is simply no legal reason for keeping this mother 1800 miles away from her children.
