My wife started a new job today. The two people she worked with today (one an existing counterpart, the other another brand employee) were both trans. I think she's gonna do okay there. 😂

That's the great thing about British TV, they give you closure.

Fact: In 100% if all fake-gun-related shootings, the victim is always the one holding the fake gun.

Such a good episode. The escalating fake gun scene is one of my favorites.

I need to do another rewatch. I've seen the whole series probably dozens of times at this point. (Also, by "the blanket fort episode" do you mean the Ken Burns Civil War homage?)

Love to see more Community fans! My all-time favorite show, hands down.

The truth is a weird hill to die on? Listen, there are plenty of things to object to with LLMs, but I'm presuming you want to be taken seriously and that requires accuracy. If you can't do that (for instance because you object on principle), then don't make those claims. It's very simple.

I made no such suggestion? I said your information was wrong.

I just tested Haiku 4.5 (a low-level Anthropic model, not a frontier model) and it easily got that right. Again, it's not hard to verify this stuff.

I also don't care if you take my advice but if you make false claims, people will not trust your judgment. Just FYI.

"Computers aren't supposed to make mistakes" is the kind of thing you say when you don't know anything about computers.

Okay, that is pretty damn egregious. Logging that info for the next time I need to buy an appliance.

Yeah, I see that kind of thing and I just shake my head. It's such a disregard for the consumer's experience with the product.

You might want to update your information here because that hasn't been true for a long time.

Right, and most people don't need Internet-connected toasters. Pushing it on people who don't need or want it is bad, I agree.

If we had adequate regulation of the industry, I think you could find some kind of equilibrium where the tech continues to advance, we don't have the entire economy balanced precariously upon it, and its figureheads don't have such an outsized influence on our society.

Gillian (Jill) @youdontknowjill.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
Yes, but I do think that there's a reflexive rejection of the tech when the problem is corporate abuse of it. I have huge gripes about how many companies started making every device an IoT device, but that doesn't make the tech bad. It's just businesses being shitty.

I don't see it going anywhere for devs, but it's good to be fair about what it is and isn't doing for the profession. There are very serious questions about the discipline of development and workforce impacts that need to be kept front of mind for the industry.

I am a huge fan of AI-assisted development, but I also know that the efficiencies you might expect from what it can do well haven't really materialized. A lot of people (some of whom are devs who should know better) are using LLMs extremely poorly and are generating garbage really fast.

Yes, but very much depending on your definition of "works." It can do a lot of the grunt work of coding and it's pretty damn good at helping to root out bugs or security flaws, but it's also still just a tool and a lot of the SDLC bottleneck isn't the coding part.

Oh, the timing of this take popping into my feed. (Then again, finding a gendered take on reading doesn't seem to be that rare.)

Now I kind of wish I could revisit those books, which definitely not might hold up after 40 years, and I really wish I could revisit those libraries that were such a sanctuary for me at a time in my life when I had very few places I really felt safe. Maybe one day.

I've wondered for years what those books were because I couldn't remember the details any more after thirty years. Tonight, thanks to the wonders of the Internet, I found them again: the Elsie Edwards books published in the '80s by the late Barthe DeClements, now lamentably out of print.

I was extremely self-conscious about my assumed gender expression as a child, so you would have thought that I would reflexively pull back from my interest in the books. Instead, I replied, "Who cares?" I knew that a lot of people cared, but fuck if I was going to care about the gendering of books.

A core memory for me was a book series I read about a group of girls that followed them from late elementary into high school. I was reading one of those books in my 7th grade English class, and the girl sitting next to me said, somewhat disdainfully, "You know those books are for girls, right?"

I was a voracious reader as a child, and I read just about anything. I even read books about fucking SPORTS -- and even though there was a lot of pressure for me to like sports, I didn't. But I loved stories, so I read them anyway. I really, truly did not discriminate much when it came to books.

I've been waxing nostalgic lately after going to our local library (which is amazing and I love it) because if there's one thing that holds unadulterated joy from my childhood, it was the library. When I was in grade school, I spent so much time at the library that was only a few blocks away.

Hard to argue against this point when he talks about the "woke mind virus." It's the kind of phrasing that you could forgive as metaphor if he didn't espouse a more literalist view already.

Do we agree to disagree that you're not a journalist, Gillian is, and you're lecturing her about "real reporting" while insinuating that her remarks are merely "social media"? Because as someone who also has a tiny bit of journalism experience, I'd rather talk about the facts.

Your post is a classic in the genre of "non-journalists lecturing actual journalists on what journalism actually is."

It's really an excellent show. Pamela Adlom and Diedrich Bader are amazing and it's Mikey Madison's breakout role, where she really shines especially in later seasons.

Let's assume the premise that certain familial relationships are important. Doesn't that entail an obligation from both parties? When you pressure someone to remain in an unhealthy relationship, you incentivize abuse. Instead, hold people to account for their bad behavior and stop blaming victims.

It is enraging to me that people will say shit like "you only have one [familial relation" like the onus for maintaining a relationship is in you and not the family member being shitty to you. Why, yes, I only have one father. Why are you lecturing me when you could be telling him not to suck?

The number of people who read the headline and apparently thought "Oh, that's a question that Perry obviously wants me to answer" is way too goddamn high. The article is excellent and maybe don't get too stuck on the headline, folks.

I literally did not do this. You cannot point to anything I said that substantiates this. What I said is that a different claim could be argued to be **true** but I never said it constituted "buying an election."

If you want to yell at allies for saying that trans people should be given some grace when it comes to voting for Democrats who are espousing openly transphobic views, you can miss me with that. It's not deep political understanding; it's just a fucking lack of empathy and it's tiring.

There's the feeling I have at the practice of capital punishment and then there's the feeling I have at the idea of making it a spectacle. Jesus Horatio Christ this is fucked up.

this is so bleak, actually imagine being called a slur for a group you don't even belong to and instead of going "wow holy shit, no one should have to put up with that, we need to hold people to account," you go "no guys it's okay I hate them too!!!" and just hand the bully your lunch money

I called you out for saying that AIPAC bought this election, and you haven't conceded that. You're moving the goalposts here by claiming that an **entirely different claim** vindicates your position when it doesn't.
