These beautiful lanterns were given to me by the wonderful participants of my workshop at Sophia University in Tokyo. Now, during Obon — お盆 — when we welcome our ancestors home, I feel something deeply beautiful: Your souls and my ancestral souls are meeting here. Thank you. I love you all. 💗

Every silver strand tells a story. After years of caring for my family and travelling between Japan and the U.K., I’m grateful I can still do what I love. Thank you, Kazu, the hair designer, for being part of that journey. A new chapter begins in Japan. 🇯🇵🤍

After many months apart, I finally got to see my mum, who has Alzheimer’s, at her care home. She hardly recognised me, but just being with her made me so happy. 💞

My Body is a Human (working title) Body, consciousness, human, universe. Coming together and drifting apart, drifting apart and coming together. Things simply happen — in daily life, in the world, on the Earth, and throughout the universe. After all, we are all particles. In the end, it’s OK.

8 March 2026, some cast finished Totoro. Some have been here since the beginning. Their presence still lingers — in the quiet between movements. They step away, but never leave. Totoro is still here. Until our paths cross again. Totoro 3.0 (Barbican / GL1) Thank you 🌱 #myneighbourtotoro #totoro

In 2025, I spent much of the year in Japan, caring for my mother. I slept beside her in her care home through the summer. My body ached, but my heart felt clear. I chose her over other work, without regret. All I can do is give myself fully to what I’m called to do, here and now. I’m so grateful.

I led the workshop ‘Freeing the Inner Voice – Body and Expression’ for theatre-makers and dancers. When we connect deeply to our inner truth, raw and visceral expression naturally emerges. So many beautiful moments — deeply grateful. More to explore and share. ✨ #actingworkshop #you-riyamanaka
