So, I guess I'm leaving Bluesky. At least for the time being, maybe forever. I left Twitter a few years ago despite having -I dare hope- a positive impact on Chess Twitter because of Musk, and because I was harassed, insulted, and threatened daily, mainly by far-right activists.

Fun fact: Marcel Duchamp left art to become a chess player. He also had a female alter-ego, Rrose Sélavy, who had her own artistic career and often met friends or went out in Paris, even late in life.

Madame Chaudé was a pionneer breaker of gender barriers in chess. The first women to play in the then "Men's" Olympiad, and a regular in the overall French Championship. She acquired legend status in her lifetime and I'll always remember her kind words to confort me after a tough loss when I was 10.

Some @chess.com employee deserves a pay raise for the 'even my friends don't text me back that fast' joke, but also a pay cut for saying you need to map all chess games to solve chess. You just need every position (~10^45), all their legal moves, and the result (win, draw, loss) associated.

People on the left need to wake up to the potential of AI, because denying its capabilities ("It's just a tool", "It's just a stochastic parrot") means denying its biggest risks. Yes, the ecological impact of AI is a problem, but it's far from the only one.

In case someone is wondering, the answers are 1. No, at least one of the kings has already moved because a pawn has necessarily been promoted on f1 or f8 2. The parity shows it's black to move, hence 1... Nxf2# (it's a known concept, might have been one of Raymond Smullyan's originally?)

My two cents on chess benchmarks: the best way to test AI's 'intelligence' using chess is via unpublished retro-analysis problems like these: 1st diag: White to move, can the game continue with 1.O-O O-O 2nd diag: Who is to move? Mate in 1?

I entered the French Championship in the worst possible mental conditions and played very poorly. With some luck, I somehow managed to qualify for the semi final. Huge congrats to Sophie for a well deserved 7th (!!) title! (She beat me 2-0 in the semi)

The E-sports World Cup qualifier was a strong tournament! Before the last round I thought, oh if I win against someone weaker, I can't qualify but might win $1.500 I was paired against Grischuk... got a winning position (played Bxc5! +2 here) but lost. At least I made a solid draw against Leko!

Just wanted to check if my email came through, because I got an error message - hopefully, this one works :)

I also wanted to clarify in more detail, what I am looking for:
1. I had a chess coach who taught me for a couple of months and since then my rating on chess.com is around 1000 ELO
2. Unfortunately, she cannot coach me anymore, for she does not have the time required at the moment
3. My goal would be to reach 1600 ELO and the second goal would be to reach 1800 ELO

So here are the relevant questions for you:
1. Could you help me reach my goals, if so, how long would it take to reach like 1600 ELO? (I can put like 1 hour work in per day)
2. Can you also tell me how much you charge per hour?
3. The sessions will take place over zoom/teams/skype?
4. Will the sessions also contain homework?

Furthermore, and I know it might sound a little bit weird, but my last coach used to do that because I actually really enjoyed it was to "soft dominate" me.
What that meant is bascially:
1. She was a very strict teacher
2. She handed out punishments like (I had to kneel while looking at the board and being coached, I had to put clothes pins on my nipples, etc.)
3. She used to send me like a picture of her and a coffee / or a drink and I had to paypal her money for that

It was actually quite funny and really helped me to focus a lot on my chess coaching.

So if I did not shock you yet, I would be happy if you could reply and answer my questions - would be more than happy to take you as a coach.

French Women's Rapid Vice-Champion! Despite starting with 6/6 I couldn't get the French Triple Crown (I hold the title in blitz and classical) and finished "only" second after losing to the winner IM Deimante Daulyte and to @serachessqueen.bsky.social who mated me on the board after a crazy game.

Playing in my first European Championship in Batumi, Georgia! The conditions are as amazing as the view from my hotel. I feel privileged and grateful to play such a tournament, and also melancholic that it's my first at 38. Being back at the Black Sea after 21 years also made me a bit nostalgic.

My father passed away this afternoon. He taught me chess, endowed me with a vast cultural capital, and passed on his insatiable desire to understand the world. Lately, he accepted me for who I am and told me how he was proud of me. I only wish he could have found another way to end his suffering
